I can understand not wanting to 'go to war', BUT when you join your countries Armed Forces, my understanding that going to war is a possability, hence why you are taught COMBAT TRAINING.
My point; understand the whole job description and if it happens to be the Aremed Forces, I think it goes with out saying, war is a possability...
Sure, but if this war is morally indefensible, aren't soldiers who refuse to participate in it in the right?

They're not in the right, they're in Fort Leavenworth...
I was reminded of the brave statement that Mohamid Ali made when he refused to serve in the US army during Vietnam. He didn't run and he didn't cry that this was unfair or racist. He simply said that he had nothing against the Vietnamise and none of them called him a nigger.
He did his 3 years in jail.
These punks should grow up and stand by their word or stand up for their convictions.

If you stand up for your beliefs sure. Not if you run away like a coward, instead of standing up and actually showing you have backbone to stand up for your beliefs.
I think it is a good article, with the collapse of the USSR there were many reasons to invent an enemy.
I can;t say I totally believe everything there, but it really is an interesting point of view.
Anyways, as for the next 6 or 7 posts following the initial post....well you have to understand that those people do not like altenative points of view, they would rather follow like sheep and ignore other possibilities, which is the easiest thing to do and requires very little brain power.
Without people like you and me who question authority, authority will over run us until we have no freedoms left at all.
Independent thought is good...the article was interesting.
they would rather follow like sheep and ignore other possibilities,
A classic argument, believe what I believe or you are sheep.
I think forming beliefs should involve independent thought and that other's arguements should be recognized as valid points of view.
Having a persective on life that only involves towing the party line doesn't make much sense - ignoring the facts that others present because they don't comply with what you are told to think is beyond ignorance, you might as well be a sheep.
That's got to go down as the dumbest thing posted this week! Since we're on a roll, do you want to buy this magic rock I have that keeps away greenhouse gasses (and tigers)? You could probably get an arts counsel loan from the Quebec government.

The evidence is there, it doesn't make someone a sheep because they believe the evidence.
