Yup, there's absolutely no doubt at all that Coulter is an ignorant twat without the slightest grasp of reality.

[quote]Don't flatter yourself. Many Americans don't even realize there is a canada.

I cannot believe you posted that comment. I am not going to flame you but read that and think about it.

Rev_Blair Rev_Blair:
...and yet if you read the posts by Americans, here and elsewhere, you find there's a lot of Canada bashing. There are plenty of exceptions, but a lot of Americans seem to show up here start wars...unable to differentiate between criticism of their government's policies (or sometimes the Canadian government's policies) and personal attacks.

A long time ago I used to just let it slide, but now I talk back.

$1:
Can you name a single program in the US that regularly expresses hatred for Canada?

It's more like your conservative commentators take turns, JBG. O'Reilly is likely the worst though.

Well, I'm one of the exceptions. I may take a shot or two at Carolyn Parrish though.

Rev_Blair @ Fri Dec 31, 2004 11:49 am

There are plenty of exceptions...about half the population of the US. If you belong to that half and look at what Parrish really said, including the context, you may find yourself agreeing with her.

Ann Coulter hates everyone. I don't see why everyone cares so much about her. She praised McCarthy to my knowledge, and is just a stupid woman who was brainwashed by conservatives politics from the time she was in college. If you look up her bio, she was in conservative groups all through college, and she basically hates anything or anyone that doesn't fit her ideology for the "true" america. She's a freak of politics, who is such a fanatic that the news programs probably have her on to boost ratings because she's an interesting character.

Rev_Blair @ Fri Dec 31, 2004 12:17 pm

She's also famous enough to be fairly influential, Johnny. She and other right-wing commentators have a lot pull in the White House too.

figfarmer @ Fri Dec 31, 2004 12:49 pm

Or was it Ronald Raygun? Arnold Terminator maybe? It sure sounds familiar.

xerxes @ Fri Dec 31, 2004 2:13 pm

The fact that people like Ann Coulter get frequent airtime makes me lament for the future of the US and it's cherished principles of free speech and healthy debate. In her screwy world, if you don't think exactly like her, you are the enemy and need to die.

I found an article about two weeks ago which i think is quite relevant here. You can find the original article here.

But the part that's most interesting is towwards the end. It's an excerpt from Mein Kampf tailored to satirize Ann Coulter. In the excerpt two words have been changed: Jew has been changed to Liberal and Germany is America.

$1:
Chapter 10: Why American Society Collapsed

It must be admitted that all this was partly the result of extraordinary crafty tactics on the part of Liberals on the one hand, and obvious official stupidity or naïveté on the other hand. The Liberals were too clever to allow a simultaneous attack to be made on the whole of their Press. No one section functioned as cover for the other. ...the national papers, also in Liberal hands, knew how to camouflage themselves as model examples of objectivity. They studiously avoided harsh language, knowing well that blockheads are capable of judging only by external appearances and never able to penetrate to the real depth and meaning of anything. ... This form of human frailty was carefully studied and understood by the Liberal Press..

Certainly in days to come the Liberals will raise a tremendous cry throughout their newspapers once a hand is laid on their favorite nest, once a move is made to put an end to this scandalous Liberal Press and once this instrument which shapes public opinion is brought under Conservative control and no longer left in the hands of Liberals and enemies of the people. I am certain that this will be easier for us than it was for our fathers. The scream of the twelve-inch shrapnel is more penetrating than the hiss from a thousand Liberal newspaper vipers. Therefore let them go on with their hissing..

By means of the Liberal Press, the Liberals spread the colossal falsehood about 'American Militarism' throughout the world and tried to inculpate America by every possible means, while at the same time the Democratic Party refused to assent to the measures that were necessary for the adequate training of our national defense forces. .

What soon gave me cause for very serious consideration were the activities of the Liberals in certain branches of life, into the mystery of which I penetrated little by little. Was there any shady undertaking, any form of foulness, especially in cultural life, in which at least one Liberal did not participate? On putting the probing knife carefully to that kind of abscess one immediately discovered, like a maggot in a putrescent body, a little Liberal who was often blinded by the sudden light.

In my eyes the charge against Liberalism became a grave one the moment I discovered the Liberal activities in the Press, in art, in literature and the theatre. All unctuous protests were now more or less futile. ... Here was a pestilence, a moral pestilence, with which the public was being infected..

I was happy at last to know for certain that a Liberal is not an American.

We should devide the gov from the people when talking politics. The fact is both countries have leaders that dont truly represent the public. Both of our leaders are leading with less then 30% of the total population who supported them. Factor in all who did not vote and the small amount who did vote, and you have the two countries lead by two man who have their own idea of where the country should go.

Which is why I like the idea of proportional representation and others here are promoting direct democracy, carpediem. Our system does not represent us, so we need to change it.

Something about the radical right-wing commentators in the US is that they do not want any real changes to their political system. It works for them.

View 'Sticks & Stones' here. The documentary Fox News did not like when The Fifth Estate aired it.

Quebeclibre,

Tone it down a bit. As defensive as I feel I should be with your comments, with no doubt there will be some defensive responses. I think I will agree with you to an extent.

We are in many ways a clone of the USA. That I agree. I don't think we are to the extent that you suggest. I also agree that Quebec is more like what Canada was, or should I say how we are, but not as much as we once were.

There are still many Canadians who refute the idea of integration with the U.S. I think you should understand that without Canada, there is no way Quebec will ever survive on its own. If Canada is lost to the U.S, it would not be long before Quebec was taken over economically by the U.S as well.

Together we stand united (Canada; all 11 provinces).
