Do you think, Mr. Obama stands a chance in American politics?

News Article:

Obama takes first step in U.S. presidential bid

Barack Obama, one of the most talked about figures in U.S politics, says he has filed paperwork that will allow him to raise funds for a presidential campaign in 2008.

The 45-year-old Illinois Democratic senator — who is little more than two years into his term — announced on his website Tuesday his intentions to file a presidential exploratory committee.

Senator Barack Obama, speaking at the Democratic National Convention in 2004, is known for his opposition to the Iraq war. He's taking aim at the U.S. presidency.
(Ron Edmonds/Associated Press) "The decisions that have been made in Washington these past six years, and the problems that have been ignored, have put our country in a precarious place," Obama said in a video statement on his website.

With the initial step, Obama begins his bid to become the first black president of the United States. Obama was born in Hawaii in 1961 to a Kenyan father and a white Kansas mother, and has said he identifies himself as African-American.

He would enter the race as the candidate with the least political experience, but also as one of the leading contenders with a high profile and immense popularity for his speaking style and vocal opposition to the Iraq war.

Senator joins crowded field
The CBC's Henry Champ in Washington said Obama's strength is his ability to make a personal connection with audiences across the country.

If I were American, I'd probably vote for him.

Can you believe that Mike Huckabee and Tom Villsack(is that his name?) are planning to run? These guys were on Rick Mercer's talking to Americans. This can't be good...

That is remarkably racist...

Why would it matter if he is black? I don't vote for people based on what they look like. Anyway it is the United States president they can elect whoever they want.

BartSimpson @ Tue Jan 16, 2007 1:11 pm

Barack Obama is a closeted muslim - the son of muslim parents who started attending a Christian church (while never accepting baptism) only a couple of years ago when he started getting into politics.

As the facts of his life gain more traction on the net his political hopes will diminish accordingly.

I know. God forbid a Muslim lead America.

lol, I won't even say anything about this because American people have the right to decide whether its a Muslim who runs the country or some retarded that can relate to most of his country. Anyways, this discussion is about whether you think, Obama can win or not. Keep muslims out of this.

It wasn't intended to be a racial remark. I was more curious about the American politics voting in their first Black President. It would be interesting to see some color in the White House but then again, I don't think he stands much of a chance, unless he is financed heavily.

How is that not a racial remark when you say it would be interesting to see some "colour". If it weren’t about race you would say, "What do you think about Mr.Obama possibly running for the United States president?" But if you want it to be about race and religion then a Negro Muslim probably has no chance. :P

Too bad. Obama was raised by a muslim father and a muslim stepmother, Lolo Soetoro, and only affected a Christian image when he decided to pursue politics. His being a muslim is perfectly relevant to the discussion of his qualifications to lead the most powerful nation in the world.

The only upside of his winning the Democrat nomination is a record turnout for the Republican Party and a shoe-in for whomever the GOP fields against Obama.

His muslim parents will be an albatross about his neck and people like myself will absolutely make his muslim background an issue in the race.

The proof that he is not really a Christian is found in that no one has condemned him for leaving islam and for being an apostate. Remember that muslims currently require a death senetence for any muslim who becomes a Christian - we just had a thread on that yesterday.

Were he a real Christian professing a sincere belief in Jesus I doubt that people like Abbas would be so thrilled with him.

Food for thought.

Thats really racist dude, because did anyone ever mention anything about your father? and you following in his foot steps? I am sure he is a intellegent man but I would love to talk to him and discuss the events that took place right after your birth. If I had to guess, I would probably go with "he dropped you on your head" but it seems that even if he did, there was nothing there to be damaged. Plus, I am willing to bet on the fact that you have no penis and you talk out of your ass but then I would give birth to a conspiracy theory that would only ruin your life like that "Sociapath" thread did. Keep up your bullshit, my friend.

Abbas, Obama's father really was a goat herder when he was a boy.

Saying so was not racist in the least since Obama has said such himself.

An apology is in order here.

lol first of all, all this information is new to me. I had no clue the guy was raised by Muslim parents. I only brought this up, ONCE AGAIN, because the fact that a black person can run the white house seemed impossible. I just wanted to see the reaction of Canadians.

You have no clue, what you are talking about a person converting and Islam asking for a death sentence. Quote the Quran or Muhammed please.

You do realise that there is a sect of Muslims called Nation of Islam, and they only believe in Black people being Muslims so if thats what he was or is, then he has nothing to do with being a Muslim. Nation of Islam was more of a mixture between Islam and ideologies of Black Panthers, back in the 60s I believe. So, if he was Nation of Islam then he has nothing to do with Islam around the world but if he is Sunni or Shai, then yea, he is a Muslim that you hate so much.

You Christains need to learn to do some investigating into Islam before turning your words into FACTS.

BartSimpson @ Tue Jan 16, 2007 2:01 pm

I never said Obama had anything to do with the Nation of Islam. Your words, Abbas, not mine. To my knowledge this is not true.

Personally, I am supporting Condoleeza Rice for President in 2008. I am on the record on this forum as saying so and a good number of GOP polls show her as ahead of any of the Republicans who have declared that they are running.

I think she'd be an excellent President.

That she is black and a woman is not material to me.

So far as the persecution of people who choose to leave islam goes, why listen to me? Why not go to this forum http://www.exmuslim.com/ and discuss this with people who have left islam?

2Cdo @ Tue Jan 16, 2007 2:02 pm

Abbas, without a doubt, you are the most ignorant person on this site, Muslim or Christian.

You are not put into the permanent ignore pile.
