Fair enough.

Nice place, Victoria. Not a lot to do, but it's beautiful. Very relaxing.

To clarify, when I mentioned opportunities that don't exist in Canada that do exist here in the USA I'm not saying that the USA is some land of opportunity that Canada isn't. There are jobs in Canada in the oil & mining industires, for instance, that don't exist in the USA. There are no jobs in the avocado farming business in Canada, on the other side of things. It isn't a slam, it's just an observation.

What I said used to be true about the entertainment business - all the great Canadian actors had to come south to succeed. But in the last twenty years Canada has really built up a movie & television industry that has changed the flow of talent from north-to-south to south-to-north.

Things are changing, granted, but someone in the electronics industry will still have to go to the USA to pursue certain jobs, for instance. Likewise, anyone who wants to be a gunsmith will need to leave Canada to pursue that trade unless they can deal with the bureacracy involved in fixing a gun in Canada as a licenced professional. Our paperwork for gunsmiths, I'll note, is starting to catch up with yours so this matter may be moot given another anti-gun Democrat in the White House.

Again, my own personal feelings are pro-Canadian when discussing immigrants in general and I would admonish my Canadian compatriots to acknowledge that instead of searching for a Canada-bash in my words.

Very relaxing is what I need after 2 hours a day in commute traffic and 50-60 hours a week at work.

And Victoria is a nice place to go to when you just want to be quiet. I find it terribly therapeutic to sit on the seawall and read a book and watch the boats and ships going to and fro.

There's no place I'd rather be.

Fair enough.

If all you're saying is that some industries flourish in the U.S., and others in Canada, and others in Asia, etc. then there's certainly no argument from me.

I guess I'm just sensitive to the 'America is THE land of opportunity' argument, and I must have read that into your post.

Cheers,

I can appreciate that. Cheers to you, too! [BB]

Let me add:

It is my own opinion that in the general exchange of immigrants with the USA the USA gets a better deal than does Canada. I'm almost always impressed with the Canadians who move here and I almost never miss the Americans who move there.

I'm quite fond of Canadians, even the liberal ones, and I do find Canada to have a higher concentration of excellent people than does the USA.

There are some great Americans, but, sadly, anymore they are few and far between.

hwacker hwacker:
Canada needs Mexicans; the only time I can get Mexican food is when I go to the states. Please tell them to come to Canada and open some restaurants.

Hey Texas, how about we trade you some Indian restaurants for some Mexican. We will throw in a couple Chinese to sweeten the deal?
You need only go as far as Leamington Ontario for authentic mexican food. There are many mexicans working there seasonally and a few have immigrated there as well.
