Is racisim a problem in Canada?

Somebody's really getting their panties in a bunch.

Hating the policies of a coutry is not the same as having a belief that non-whites are genetically inferior to whites, which the majority of white Canadians seem to think they are.

And as much as I don't like the current U.S. government, i have to say that Canadians are more racist than Americans.

You know it's true. Ask any Canadian guy who has taught English in Asia "oh yeah, it's great, the girls don't like the ASian guys, so they'll sleep with any white guy they can find"...and it IS true,...OF CANADIAN GIRLS, but not of women from any other predominately white country other than South Africa. I know this because I get told OVER AND OVER that I'm the "first Canadian girl" anyone has ever met who dates a non-white. Not the first "female", the first "CANADIAN FEMALE".

We're a racist country. We have the worst reputation in Asia for racism. If we don't face it, we can't change it.

What a cop-out. You know I'm right and you can't argue.

Underfunded undertalented TV can't teach anyone anything and you know it.

TV does not reflect the reality we HAVE. TV reflects the reality we WISH we had.

Canada is a racist country. TV masks this national embarrassment.

Canada does have a racism problem. The problem is with every race or group. Try walking around Edmonton for a while. You will find most of the young lebanese men are very racist against anyone who is not arab. Many of the young natives "hate" the lebs, "whitey", and the asians. The asian folk are very quiet about it, and I suspect they are less racist than even the white folk. The muslim folk, though not a race, are paraniod about white people, mostly, and seem to keep to themselves these days. The white people, while not racist on the whole, seem to be represented by the loud-mouthed neo-nazi skinhead element and any other racist bigot who feels like gracing us with their opinion, whether we feel that way or not.

I do have to say, unfortunately, that I am starting to become a little bit purturbed by this trend. I am not racist by any means, and am not too happy with it when it happens. The problem, I am finding, is that I am starting to stereotype young people of some groups. I find the young Lebanese men are overly agressive, violent, and racist. I find the young white men are agressive, racist, and think they are better than everyone else, even other white people who they think are below them. The young native men are violent, racist, and have a huge chip on their shoulder where they think they are owed something and the rest of us should just bow down and let them do whatever they want.

For those of you who think I am being racist or don't know what I am talking about, I have friends in all of these groups. These friends are complaining about their own groups, and very little about the others. Oh, and by all means, I am not generalising the entire group, either. It just seems that these things are on the rise, and the bad apples that are there, are worse than they have been in the past.

What I am saying, in a nutshell, is that every group has it's racists, the problem is not contained to white, anglo-saxon men at all. There are racists in every race, and the racism is spread around to every group. Asians hating lebs and natives, natives hating whites and lebs, lebs hating everyone.

The problem is that the different ethnic groups, for so long, were the minority in this country. They felt they had to stick together with their own group to keep themselves and their traditions safe. The white populace was seen as the majorty group who would strip away the identity of the ethnic group. That has all changed. Now, White folk are on an equal footing with all of the others combined. Many young white folks, influenced by their parents or their grandparents views, are feeling threatened by the growing number of "non-whites" in Canada. They see it as a threat to their future livelyhood as these "foreigners" are going to take all the jobs and educational grants and et cetera. This is feuled by the misconceptions that those "foreigners" are getting special treatment by the government and the white folk are being ignored in favor of the others. This makes this minority of whites angry and intolerant. This, in turn, feuls the racists and biggots in the ethnic communities.

The "minority" groups, though, are now finding themselves more numerous. Many of the young people of these groups, who in ages past were told by paranoid parents to stay with friends of their own race and thus are accustomed to sticking together, find they can wield more power against the white majority. Many of the young people, mostly men, group up with others of their race as they are accustomed, and don't care who they push around. This is feuled by the increasing paranoia and racism of young white people (and other ethnic groups), which is in turn feuled by the blatant racism of the agressive group. It is a vicious cycle which will perpetuate.

The odd man out, as it were, in my experience in Edmonton, is the asian community. There is very little agresivenes from the young men in that group, at least not unprovoked. It seems they are staying to themselves, and getting along with others as the situation presents itself. Even still, they do have their predjudices and are warry around certain groups.

Really, racism is a problem in Canada, and every group does it.
