It's time to distance ourselves from the US
If Americans believed in political correctness, we'd still be King George's boys - subjects bound to the British crown. Political correctness is tyranny with manners.

A lot of countries are too poor to participate to international trade. If Canada would contribute to their takeoffs, new markets for Canadian goods will be created.
How can you be too poor to participate in international trade? If you got a resource of value, you open markets from other countries to it, then money will poor in. Look at Saudi Arabia. Some countries are just not blessed with much to trade.
Only problem would be affording a port, and storage systems. However you would have to be really poor to not be-able to afford one as a country, even a really crappy one. However if you got something of real value, then other countries would build a port for you.

Indeed.
We've been trying to open other markets for years and absolutely nothing of significance has come from it. Our closest European partners haven't stepped it up either so why should we have these delusions of grandeur that another country is just waiting for us to sell them something. Natural recourses is all any new partner would want so why keep fooling ourselves.
I don't buy that. The market is many things, predictable it is not. The thing of value in this discussion is that it does promote the idea of diversification. Quite frankly the world and Canada has put most of its eggs in the one basket that is the US. Canada is the coal cart to the US economy at this point and I see no change in that forecast but there is no reason why we should not be aggressively developing new markets ourselves. Canada has become far to complacent upon the US to provide the market to sell our goods that they have developed for us in our own country. We have done little to develop our own countries resources or work on real trade with other countries. That we can't crack the EU or China trade is a result that Canada has not been at bat and the only reason they are knocking on our door now is that they are practically begging us to sell it to them. I hope we do more in markets with more potential such as indo-china or Africa but frankly I have seen little if any effort at the trade table where this country is concerned.

Since the end of World War II (the Bretton Woods meeting), it was very easy to think that the US economy would be forever the engine of the world economy. This dream is over.
Does anything think Canada should do what the u.s. tells us to?
That we should follow them and allow them to rape and pillage our country?
That we should go down with their sinking ship?
Who thinks the u.s. has the moral high ground in anything these days?
The best thing we can do is tell all yanks to kiss our arse and get to working with countries that arent as horrible as the u.s. ...

If we dont deal with more and more countries around the world and ween ourselves away from the amoral americans we will doom ourselves ... thats a fact ...
Of course u cant convince harper and his small minded ilk ...

Canada is worth too much to let it be tainted by contact with the u.s., we are better than that as Canadians and I dont want to see us get dragged down by their incompetence, stupidity and greed.
