Help me out here for a sec tho. I am wondering what the cost is in the states for lets say a basic medical. Can ya help me out?

With insurance or without?
Let's say you want a fairly comprehensive look-over with a bunch of blood tests for disease screening and blood chemistry, a urinalysis, and a chest xray. Height, weight, blood pressure, heart/lung listen, medical history, etc. No MRI, a basic look at eye/ear/teeth health but not like a specialist would. Get all the lab results back, and write it up. You spend all morning at the doctor's office. About $800-$900 (no insurance).
Basic physical for school sports with no insurance, spend 30 minutes not including the wait, I think about $100.
Does that help?

It seems like the wealthy in the states pull all of the strings. They are so afraid of paying taxes to help someone. They don't mind paying taxes to build a military that destroys nations. They don't mind paying taxes to rebuild the nations that the military that they paid taxes on destroyed. Yet they are terrified of paying taxes to make their own nation healthier.

Just strikes me as strange.

Bart..In the states quality healthcare is not a right as you say, it is a priveledge that only those who can afford it get. Canadians have the right to universal healthcare. It may be flawed but I am glad it is here. We don't have to worry about HMO's telling us which doctors to see or for profit hospitals refusing treatments because our insurance doesn't cover it or, heaven forbid we cannot afford insurance.

I have private insurance that covers incidentals such as ambulance transport and room upgrades.

Sure. I pay $5 for any office visit with my coverage. Others pay more if they opt for lower premiums.

And you may find that healthcare is not a right in Canada. Not if you're 67 or older and come down with Hodgkins. If you do you're fucked if you're in Canada and you're cured if you're in the USA.

My wife treats gerontological oncology patients and gets her share of elderly Canadians who have to come her for treatment because they were denied treatment in Canada for being too old. :?

Not exactly true PJB, look at your next paycheck, you paid for it.

You're something. In a good way. You'll argue like hell on some things and then dwell on the obvious with others.

Very cool. :D

Yup, I think that's what I gave you - assuming x-rays are 1 or 2. They are a somewhat high-cost item. $800-$900, but varies by location and provider is my estimate. My data is based on what people are reporting immigration physicals cost. They include all such blood work and x-rays.

I said OUT OF POCKET for christ sakes. I didn't have to pay the doctor cash out of my pocket. My taxes paid for it but that, although painful, is quiet.

Hwacker..Don't like paying Canadian taxes..Ya know where the door is as you sound much more like an American than a Canadian taxpayer.

You do realize that if you don't pay high taxes the rest of the $$$ goes in your pocket, right? Hence it came right out of your pocket. Not that day but on every payday for the rest of your life until you die.
