Bart..Sorry about the assumption. I thought you did. Then I say thank you for supporting our Canadian vets..I make an annual donation to the local Legion and I too feel that they are not given enough. Both in pensions and respect.

Once again and I will say it proudly WE DONT WANT UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE. the Clintons tried people did not want it. You can keep it.
Yes HMO's dont tell you where to go they give you a list of doctors to chose from that are within their provider network. You dont like those doctors change your company and you can have more choices.

In Canada my inlaws at the moment cannot change their primary care pyshician. My uncle ahd to wait 2 months for open heart surgery. YOU CAN KEEP IT. I know what I pay per month and if I dont like what the doctors are doing I can change them. I want a second thrid and fouth opinion I can have those no extra charge.

Why is it that every Canadian I know that moves here say our healthcare is better?

I started supporting this group regularly and a few other local (Victoria) groups after I bought my home up there and ran into the old guys around town. The Maritime Museum sees a lot of the Royal Navy (UK) guys and they do alright, but the Canadian guys who live in the senior homes around town have it tough. I always have money for them and some of these guys sacrificed far more than I did. I just have a bum knee while some of them have no legs.

The guys in the USA don't have it so bad because there's no shortage of groups supporting individual vets. It seems that Canadians (individuals I meet) are embarassed by the fact that Canada has gone to war in the past and the guys are a living offence to their pacifism.

What really, really sucks is how many of these guys are forgotten by their families. :?

We have a Canadian club here in my Florida town, and that is the widespread, if not unanimous view amongst us ex-pats.

Avro Americans are not conserned about the qaulity of healthcare where as Canadians are what does that tell you?

How many Americans with HMO's are told which doctor or hospital they can go to.

Switch HMOs.

Can you do that?

PJB @ Wed Sep 14, 2005 12:41 pm

Manifest..I can change my primary doctor today if I wanted to. If I want a second opinion all I have to do is ask for it. Sure the American healthcare system may be better if you can AFFORD it. If not then...Oh I forgot..You can afford it and obviously, you do not care about those who, for many different circumstances, cannot.

The Hoser @ Wed Sep 14, 2005 12:41 pm

Guess it all comes down to "Good healthcare for those who can afford VS Decent health care for all".

BartSimpson @ Wed Sep 14, 2005 12:43 pm

My 2004 donations in Canada were US$2,876.00 according to my QuickBooks. Not much, but it's more than what would've been I suppose.

PJB @ Wed Sep 14, 2005 12:44 pm

Toro..I have no reason to switch. I have the same access to specialists as any other Canadian. Canada does not need HMO's who want to get rich off of you.

Insofar as those living in Florida..What is the average age and disposable income?

Toro @ Wed Sep 14, 2005 12:45 pm

PJB PJB:
Toro..Do those on medicare or medicaid have access to the same healthcare as those who can pay?

Depends on the program. A few years ago, those receiving government aid were jumping the queue at some hospitals because the government was paying more. HMSS has changed that.

But the question shouldn't really be whether or not its the same. The question is whether it is adequate. If I want to rent a private room overlooking the Hudson River and pay for it, why should someone on government assistance have the same opportunity?

Interesting observation. We complain about the cost of healthcare but I rarely hear complaints about the quality or accessibility. Hmmm.

PJB and The HOser who told this that poor people cannot get the same care? Medicare covers their bills. A poor person in my city gets the same healthcare I get.

Did you ever hear 40 million Americans without healthcare?
No you hear 40 Million with out Health insurance. THEY HAVE HEALTHCARE>

Americans are not concerned about the quality of healthcare? What does that tell me? Americans are not concerned about their health, thats what.

Bart..If your system was not for-profit you would not have so many hospitals around. These hospitals can have state of the art facilities because those that use them pay for them. If you feel alright about directly paying for these services then you can have that instant access.
