Muslims are offended by lots of things. They are offended by my going to church, listening to any kind of music, drinking a nice Okanagan wine, enjoying some fine Canadian bacon, looking at a fine Canadian woman in a short skirt, owning a pet dog, and the list goes on and on.
Find some. None I have come across are offended by other people doing those things if they choose to. They aren't offended in the least. These people do accept that life in Canada is not controlled by their religion.
I have however met many Xtians who are offended if everyone at the table does not say grace with them and I have even met some Xtians who were offended by my simply being an Atheist.

Bah, poppycock. I guess unless every christian stands up and speaks out against everything other christains have done including child molestation, and murder, than all christians must be held accountable for there sins.
Please pull your head out of the sand, Christian leaders most certainly do speak out against those evils. They also spend money to work toward solutions. The solution Muslim leaders use is called jihad.
Actually the catholic church did a right nice job of concealing years of child abuse. It seems they don't get the contempt that others do. I understand it's easier to deal with the loss of life, and the fear of terrorism when you can put a simple name to it like 'Muslim'. After all we can't punish the actual perpatrators, because there dead, but someone must pay.
Good Point. The fact of the matter here is that religion/spirituality are belief systems. They exist in specific cultural/temporal milieus and as such, are subject to alterations, evolutions and trends. They are clearly fair game for criticism, as are their follower’s actions, but sweeping generalizations, ignorance and bigotry should be grounds for condemnation as well.
Are terrorists cowards? Sure. Should they be targeted as international criminals? That’s clearly up to sovereign entities to decide. Are all Muslims terrorists? No. Are all Christians culpable for the horrors of the Medieval Crusades? Nope. Some people need to put things into perspective.
Good Post
How many of you actually read the quoted material. Wouldn't it be better form to edit out the irrelevant quote or highlight the relevant lines....rather than lazily quote on every reply? I have never been to a board with more nested quoting than this. I'm surprise that nothing have ever been done, it takes up so much space IMHO, and breaks the smooth line of discussion.
I think it should be made clear that we most certainly do denounce evils in our own religions and punish the religious leaders when necessary. Muslims have no such reputation.

Why do you want to offend muslims, shouldn't it be terrorists that your after?
When Muslim leaders wait too loooooooooong before making even the smallest pronouncement against the wrongdoers, they invite whatever they've got coming to them.
Oooh, is that what it is? I thought maybe Ali had pissed him off somehow. Maybe by not going to Vietnam... or maybe Bart was just a big Foreman fan... *shrug*

Hey Avro, I wish you no animosity. I thought that was just good forum banter.
Welcome back when you come back

yeah real "good forum banter" saying you'd put him in a coffin
Did you just drop in off the moon or something? Go have some coffee before you reply.

Yes, thats why I said "I have met" and not "all Xtians". I am judging those people I have met and illustrating a point to Bart and not at all casting a blanket condemnation against all Xtians with regards to acting like that. Does my post not read just like that?

I know you do. I read your thread on him.
He's Muslim. Here you are justifying bashing
all Muslims... ...That would include Ali. Get it?
Like RUEZ said: you mean terrorists, right? Not Muslims.

I'm not one of them. I'm actually getting to like you most of the time anymore. You're welcome to have dinner with the missus and myself anytime and I would not expect you to say 'grace' as it would be an empty gesture to you.
It only matters to people who have it in their heart.
And the Christians who are offended by your being an atheist need to get over themselves, you have a right to be or not be whatever you want and they should respect that.

No you aren't. In truth the "grace" offense came from within my own extended family. Where I currently work there are no such feelings by any of the religious but where I use to work there were people whom disliked me entirely based on my Atheism. It actually took several weeks of me wondering what I'd done until a coworker (we had become friends) explained the situation. Those same people also took offense to another respected and senior co-worker because he was gay. I don't attribute that behaviour to all who share their faith but I do recognize it as
coming from the teachings of their faith, just as the extremists muslims derive their actions from. I see it as striving to blame "bush" instead of "America" or the "seperatists" instead of "Quebec". That goes the same with religion. Now if you want to say you hate the muslim faith and disbelieve it entirely then that is your opinion just as much as you saying you hate green peppers. You are intelligent enough to know the difference.
Can we have a different religious hatred thread?
This particular thread probably shouldn't have been started, (given
its original purpose), and now is way off topic & is only going to result in
more offense given & taken.
