You can use veloute on poutine? cool that makes things easier, but I don't know if you can buy canned white stock. Oh well I can always go to the butcher for veal bones.

Zoraja @ Tue Mar 07, 2006 11:52 am

what the hell is veloute, we use c-h-e-e-s-e

Knoss @ Tue Mar 07, 2006 11:56 am

Worry not Panzerknacker. It will all come clear in your first few days and after a while you will be just as confused as the rest of the population.

Even poutine (french fried potatos with gravy & curd cheese) can get out of hand. Would you like brown or white sause (gravy) CHOSE THE BROWN!!! The white is a mystery, and best left that way!

My bad.

Have a good move to your new home - Canada! But why would you want to settle down in Quebec? Great job opportunities here in Alberta. Any way....enjoy the BBQ's and yes, BYOB!

We might just do that, it's just that it would have been too expensive to study in the English speaking part of Canada. You pay way more money as a foreign student and quebec has a deal with France that let's students study for the same fee as any Canadian.(my wife is French)

After she gets her diploma, we might venture west to Vancouver or another province. I don't know yet and actually I love not knowing for the moment. :) I feel like anything could happen. :D

you know, somehow it makes sense to bring your own beer.

Check out this site: www.canadian.ca

Lots of people here in the Western Provinces speak the French language!

Okay, it was quiet in this topic and for good reason. Ever since I got to Canada I had no internet. But now I am actually in Canada and with a fresh internet connection so I can rejoice!!! :D

I am in Canada now for a month and I love it here!!! This country is fantastic, I am enjoying being here far more than I ever hoped to imagine. Okay sure my French still sucks, but it´s good enough to survive in quebec and fortunately a lot of people do speak English here.

I wouldn´t even know where to begin if I were to list all the things that are better here than in Holland. Everything from the nature to the shopping malls, it´s great!!! The thing that struck me most is how mellow people are, it´s such a contrast from Holland. My wife and me found an appartment(5 1/2), where we´re gonna live starting July and it´s only 2 kilometres away from the Montmorency waterfalls and we got a view on the Orleans island and river. Jesus, on a PhD salary we could only afford a shoebox in Holland....

After having spent a month here now, we know we made the right choice coming here.

By the way I tried poutine yesterday and it was the greasiest garbage I have ever eaten in my life. It´s my only bad experience in Canada so far. I actually felt violated after a few bites and decided to eat no more. Somehow my wife ate the rest, but only because she felt it would be a shame to throw food away. Shame on Lachance for inflicting this stuff on the world. :D

BluesBud @ Mon Apr 24, 2006 6:00 pm

I am sure you even find the gas cheaper. Some of us spoiled canadians still don't realise how much gas goes for in YOUR home land. The americans have it even cheeper than us and they rant about the price.

BluesBud @ Mon Apr 24, 2006 6:03 pm

Anyhow....welcome to Canada. I hope we will see you in Ottawa for your first Canada Day  [flag]

You know, just for fun I just checked the prices and regular unleaded goes for about 2,10 CAN dollar per liter right now in Holland. 8O Around 1,50 Euro.

Canada day, is that on the first of July? If so i´ll probably will miss it this year cause on that day i´ll be moving to my new appartment.

I´d love to come to Ottawa by the way. :)

BUT I usualy have a bottle of wine and a "Two Four" (new canadian term for you Panz. It is a box of 24 beers) for guests. Am I better than the average CDN host? OH BOY ARE YOU GUYS CHEAP!!

Gee...thats like 1.4 beers per guest... :?

WE HAVE MORE FRIENDS THAN YOU BUD!! :P

I always got some pops in the fridge in case someone drops by.

When I have a party I always have an extra case(two-four) for those that are short on the brew.
