This is more commonly known to the locals as the Duffy Lake Road, and it is one of the most beautiful drives you'll ever take, particularly heading toward Pemberton, as you get a better view of the glaciers. Just don't forget to gear down on the final switchbacks. My brother gets lots of RVs pulling into his driveway with burned out brakes.

The Duffey Lake road just blew me away, lily (thanks for reminding me of its proper name! ), it just seemed so perfect:

- the area still looks and feels like an unspoiled wilderness...
- gorgeous scenery all the way...
- incredible variety of scenery: one minute you're driving through a forest, five minutes later a semi-arid desert!
- Duffey Lake: Beautiful (Water was kinda cold!).
- All those funky wooden single-lane bridges over Cayoosh Creek...
- That place near Lillooet (Pavilion?) where some guy put a bunch of toilet bowls and other assorted bathroom fixtures in his front yard!
- That crazy descent into Pemberton!

*sigh* I'm going to have to do that drive again this summer! :D

HonoraryHoser...
I'll guess that you haven't been to Vancouver in a while. With traffic, 20 minutes from downtown puts you.... still downtown.
I was there last week...there was hardly any traffic.

i dont know about you all but i think the island is the best place in bc

Are they planning on improving Duffy Lake Rd for the Olympics?
Ever take the fork on the road that heads SE toward Harrison Lk? A little rough but nice trip.

Ok folks..Not to be rude but there is a helluva lot more to Canada than BC...One must include the Eastern Coast to one of the prettiest places in Canada. Hell, even Quebec has some beautiful places. I guess one cannot be specific about a specific place but we all have to agree we live in one gorgeous country.

newbornkefka @ Sun Apr 03, 2005 8:25 pm

I guess it is in the eye of the beholder

PJB @ Sun Apr 03, 2005 8:27 pm

Good point! When we look past the little stuff we can see the beauty in the bigger picture.

I love Niagara, but to me, the Rockies are the most beautiful place in Canada. It's exhilarating to take in the view as you first drive up and into them. It's majestic and breath-taking. Nothing quite like them!

newbornkefka @ Mon Apr 04, 2005 11:38 am

hey i was born in niagra and the falls are very beautiful

do not listen to him happychick

xerxes @ Mon Apr 04, 2005 11:47 am

Every province has parts that are beautiful to some. Niagra is nice, but it has become such a tourist hell-hole. The only place is don't particularily like are the prairies. Myabe it's because I've lived in BC all my life, but something felt very wrong when, as I was driving through Sask, and I couldn't see any mountains. All I could see was the horizon. It freaked me out!

Streaker @ Tue Apr 05, 2005 7:08 am

I have a theory that the prairies are maybe a little boring if you drive through them on the Trans-Canada, but might be a whole lot more interesting if you take the secondary roads. For example, the Cypress Hills of southern Saskatchewan/Alberta are supposed to be really nice, but you don't see them from the T-Can. It's almost like the builders of the T-Can asked themselves "what would be the most boring route?" and then built the highway there.

Anyhow I'll be testing out this theory in a few weeks...

Oh man, all this scenery you've been talking about sounds too good to be true. Englands whole outlook on our natural scenery is "oh, thats nice, build a road through of it for the tourists will ya?" Even our underground caves cant go without people damaging or changing them, which is a shame.

Good point, Adeez. It's probably better when major highways skirt around scenic areas and leave them unspoiled! :)

Can't say I really visited China as the only place i managed to visit was Shenzhen.
Wanted to spend some time in China as I had 5 weeks in HK.Well things just didn't work out as I planned.
The other place I visited was Macau..lost some money at the casino.
Hey those casinos are huge..bigger than Vegas.New one being built that will cost 2 billion us.
Only thing that gets me is where do all these young people get the money to gamble..
Another thing is that China has to do something about the pollution problem..
The air pollution readings here in Vancouver may get to 40 <away from the water>on a bad day.
In Hong Kong the roadside readings got to 125 with lows of 95 away from traffic.
Also found that way too many people smoke..
I may try a golf tour in China this year as I have 6 weeks of free time. Also have to get a bowling membership if I want to bowl<even open play requires one>
Would like to try the HK International Open in Nov.Only watched it last year.
Where do you live Hiben?
if I can make that way maybe you can give me a tour of the place...
The tree is a called a Maple of which there are several types.I like the Red Maple..
Oh we had to name a hockey team after the Maple Tree.called the Maple leafs
For all the Toronto fans we needed a team in the cellar so we planted a Maple Leaf...LOL<a joke Hiben>
