grainfedprairieboy grainfedprairieboy:
Confessions of a Middle Aged Grain Fed Prairie Patriot.

When I was younger I was Mr_Canada style weirdly patriotic. I did things like organised the national petition against Famous Players to return to playing the national anthem, shopped in Canadian only stores and went to great effort in the day before the internet to research the origins of manufactured products to buy Canadian when ever possible. For example, which model Ford was built in Canada? I involved myself in politics with both the Reform and National Parties. Some members here also know that I named 2 of 4 kids after Canadian geographical locations and have always named the dogs after Prime Ministers. (Mr-Canada: I always had a Maple Leaf shaved in the back of my head as my TM, I must post photo.)
, yes, you must.

$1:
My patriotism culminated in my joining the army out of duty to this nation. I felt at the time nobody could be a "real" patriot without doing their duty for God and country and all others.
Agreed.

But I simply am too pathetic to ever join the Canadian Forces, ;)

$1:
Canadians are no more polite then any other people.

........

Well, you have the statistics, I don't.

....

$1:
Americans are the greatest friend certainly Canada, and maybe any other nation, has ever had and we should thank God for them every day.

.....

I'll see that for myself....

$1:
There should be restrictions placed on who is eligible to vote.

What kind of restrictions? I may agree.

$1:
Unless you've lived in at least three provinces you don't know shit about this country.

Lived in 3. British Columbia, Alberta, and Manitoba. My definition of living being atleast 2 years. Been to 5. Want to live in all, ;)

$1:
Quebec is more a threat to Canadian unity through the status quo then through separation.
....

Well, I really don't like holding negitive views against provinces unless I see for myself. Like Alberta.

$1:
Canadian's do not support their military and its service members.
Yeah... They should.

$1:
Canada's healthcare system is simply one of the worst of the western nations and is often held up by others as an example of what not to do.
8O

Since when?

$1:
What people do in their home is their business.
Yeah, sure. Privacy.

$1:
A country's customs and traditions and how its people uphold them are what defines any nation. Any country willing to alter their society in a time frame of months or years is by default acknowledging that part of their country as requiring correction. Seeing as how we have completely revamped our society in only a generation and are carrying on the social reengineering full tilt with no real course or direction, I hope you can understand why I feel that liberals are anathematic to the concept of a united Canada and patriotism itself.
Yes, I want the destruction of Canada.

Is it the Liberal Party or are you bashing all Liberal supporters and thinkers?

Actually... There is a reason I really don't consider myself a Liberal Party supporter, but rather just a Liberal-like thinker. If the Liebral party decided to destroy Canada, my views would remain the same, as in, Liberal-Minded, but I would probably hate the Liberal Party more then anything. My views arn't really coinciding with the Lib Party anyhow.

$1:
As such, when I joined CKA I was still a Canadian patriot but barely. Following the demise of the liberals I have been somewhat rejuvenated having slowly been instilled with a fresh new sense of pride and optimism for our collective future. Without the Liberals there to sack, pillage and plunder the colonies for imperial Ottawa and by default forcing inhabitants to defend their homes, one can’t help but feel being part of something greater again.
Eh.

I have a question.....

......

Would you say that you hold any possible view of Albertan superiorism over Canada? Is it because of this?

Yeah, i was about to question that, :P

Canada First?

For someone who "doesn't care for Canadian Sovereignty in the least"?

Gee, I don't recall Germany, Britain, Poland, France, Belgium and so on giving up their sovereignty and become one country.

They are part of a "Union" which has lifted trade barriers, employment barriers and share in a stronger sense of security.

Nevertheless, France is still France, Germany is still Germany.

I would like to see the same for Canada, United States and Mexico.

But Canada becoming the "51st state". NO!!

Canada becoming "part" of the USA. NO!!

I am for a common border for immigration, security, the 100% removal of trade barriers, no more bull shit about Canadian lumber, beef, fisheries.

NAFTA is just bull shit.

We need a better agreement, or none at all.

.

I'm starting to wonder if you switch the "Liberal/Conservative" thing like an "On/Off" switch. Maybe it's just me.

I could go find posts of you supporting NAFTA whole heartedly, I bet.... unless I was just dazed or something...

I don't understand how anyone can have a feeling of living in a unified country here. I have lived in three provinces, and the people in each had very different values.

When I was in B.C. I got hassled by everyone who found out I was from Ontario.

Being in Quebec now, I know I'm in another country and it pisses me off that Ontario is subsidizing it's existence.

Some people on here like to talk about the problem of immigrants moving to Canada and not integrating and adapting to "Canadian values".

Guess what, there is no such thing as "Canadian values". The values of an Albertan and the values of an Ontario or the values of a Quecbeker are almost diametrically opposed. The Atlantic provinces also all have their own uniqueness.

There is no Canadian identity. Conservatives hate the Liberal identity and Liberals hate the Conservative identity. The only thing we have in common is hockey. We are a country on paper, in name only.

Canada first. I'm proud of my heritage adn where I come from, but I am more proud of where I am. Canada first and always!!!

When travelling abroad, I say I'm from Canada. After that, someone will usually ask where or take a guess, so then I tell them from Ottawa.

o.k. I support NAU, but I have always claimed NAFTA is the foundation to NAU. That is not support for "NAFTA" ?

You show me a post supporting "NAFTA". I support the North American Union if it does what it is suppose to do.

No I am not keen on NAFTA, it's a bad agreement that has screwed Canada.

We win court case after court case and never can collect.

The same goes for the heavy industries that rolled into Northern Mexico, dumped toxic waste, destroyed the environment, then left.

Mexico sued these company's but guess what/ no money.

We need a better agreement, the NAU may be that agreement.

NAFTA, however, we pull out, we pay fines for quiting. (Fucking Lawyers)

That hurts, but I agree.

It's why we as proud Canadians can't find ourselves as Canadian or explain ourselves as Canadian....

But I still feel that I'm part of a country rather then series of provinces, regardless of the culture differences.... I recognize the Cultre differences, but I feel no more Albertan then a person from Newfoundland. Thoguh, I probably adapt and start appearing like I'm part of the culture, until I move.

I distest hwo the differnet cultures ahte each other. I'm really sick and tired of Anti-Quebecism. I like Quebec, alright? I don't care if their French, I don't think their bastards. I happen to fuckign LIKE French. :x [/end off topic rant]

VitaminC @ Mon Jan 22, 2007 8:40 pm

Where I live in Quebec, the kids call the National Anthem the hockey song. The only time they have ever heard it in their life is when they watch hockey on tv.

One day I was teaching some kids what the word foreign means, and gave examples like America is a foreign country, England is a foreign country, etc....One kid put up his hand and asked me if Canada is a foreign country.

You really are one to talk. :P Anyway the question was where my loyalties are and of course they are with the crown for that is the oath I swore by. I don't plan on swearing one to the constitution or to some flag or even to the premier or the prime minister anytime soon.
