Johnny-Canuck Johnny-Canuck:
Canada in the year 2050...the 51st state?

Why are you guys so NEGATIVE! Canada will remain the wonderful land it is, the ten provinces and three territories will remain in Canada, and the population will double. (the number of people moving to Canada from Eastern Europe has been increasing a lot) which is why the population will double.

Streaker @ Wed Dec 15, 2004 5:45 pm

I wish you were right Hockeyguy but I doubt the population will double by 2050! The reason is all the baby-boomers will be dying off soon and that will put a brake on future growth.

One thing that will happen is that our large cities will keep growing while rural areas get depopulated. I found some interesting stats while doing a recent paper for an urban studies course. Here is the predicted population of some major Canadian cities in 2060:

Toronto: 12million (presently around 5.1mil.)
Montreal: 5.4 mil. ( " " 3.6mil.)
Vancouver: 4.7 mil. ( " " 2.2mil.)
Ottawa: 2.7mil. ( " " 1.2mil.)
Calgary: 2.7mil. ( " " 1 mil.)
Edmonton: 2.6mil. ( " " 1 mil.)
Winnipeg: 1.4mil. ( " " .7 mil.)

The predicted figures all seem really high to me but they were produced by an expert on demographic trends.

In my neck of the woods I see the whole Cowley ridge lined with windmills, the windfarms will replace the mom and pop operations working cattle and the fields. $300.00/month for every rig installed on your land right now. The coalmines will still be pumping out the coal for export as supply of power will soon exceed demand,it allready has in China.

I dont think what I want to see will ever happen and that's peace unto the world.

Why cant we all just get along?

Be nice for the whole world to just take 3 steps back and take a couple of deep breaths.

jheesh!

I would like to see greater increase in population. Less homless people. No teen mothers. Pot sold like tobacco without americans tightening there butt holes about it.

(naked girls but thats a minor thing which would be nice to have)

I trully hope and think quebec will still be in canada, i hate separatists so much dammit i hate them

Carpe-Diem @ Fri Mar 11, 2005 8:08 pm

I'm a separatist and proud to be it, good, im beeiing hated by you... wow, if your a quebecios, i cant understand why a quebecois can be a federalist, it's against comon sense,,, i mean, you are disrespected all your ancestors that have fought for what we have, all the culture and the history we got, we have to be a country, you are just insecure..

WarHawk @ Fri Mar 11, 2005 8:18 pm

The UN will be gone, and Canada along with the USA will be members of a new coalition of democratic nations spreading democracy around the world!

Gay marriage, aswell as abortion will be banned.

Valentine @ Fri Mar 11, 2005 8:23 pm

To Carpe Diem

I'm sorry to say but a lot of people from the province of Quebec, either francophones or anglophones, are federalist. I'm proudly one of them! That's the problem with the separatists, everybody who think differently is wrong. Have you ever think that maybe it's the other way around???

And to you ViveleCanada : je suis entierement d'accord avec toi :)

To answer the question, in 2050, I hope Canada will still be the country I love. Hopefully some things are going to be better... but mostly the same.

Sorry for that. I don't think it is the place to talk about the Quebec issue. All I'm saying is that whatever you say, they, the soveignists, always find a way to change the facts to their advantage. Their agenda is based on lies and on a dream of an old party who wants more power!

Carpe-Diem @ Fri Mar 11, 2005 9:16 pm

By 2050 Quebec will be an independent nation landlocked by the fifty-nine states and three territories of the United States of North America.

The Stars & Stripes will have nine more stars on it and Canadians will be warmly welcomed by their fellow Americans.

The Quebecois will have caused the collapse of the Canadian union when they separated and divided Canada into a nation without common borders: Eastern Canada & Western Canada.

The western provinces will raise the US flag first with the last province to do so being BC.

The Newfies on the east will be the first to follow suit and Ontario will be the last to enter the US as the Republican Senate will filibuster over Ontario admission. A Republican Senator will suggest that Ontario join up with Quebec since Ottawa spent so much time sucking up to the French anyways.

US environmental rules will then apply to the vast timberlands of BC and nary a log in BC will be cut well into the 22nd century due to the vastly tighter environmental rules of the USA.

Liberals will rail at the end of the Canadian union and the end of their socialist utopia but most people will dismiss them as delusional individuals who lacked an understanding of economics.

All this scenario needs to become reality is for Quebec to splinter off.
