I was in the ACF but decided not to join the Army. My brother however joined the Royal Irish Regiment and was sent to Iraq. The Royal Irish had been in Iraq right from the get go.

Meat head out of CFB Gagetown. Appointed the DSO for 403 Sqn after they took my guns away. Seems the provost Marshals office doesn't like it when you have a second job carrying more firepower than MP's.

I wasn't aware that you could be drafted into the USN. I had always thought it was a volunteer force.

Interesting.

elk6x6 @ Sun Apr 10, 2005 1:31 pm

Yup, I was 18 y/o in Oct. 1965. Drafted into the US Navy. I was the first of three that went in from Montana that day. I was told that I was the first draftee in the Navy since WW2. I served 1 yr, 11 mos. and 18 days on active duty and 4 more years in inactive reserves. Honorable disch.

hormel26c @ Sun Apr 10, 2005 3:14 pm

Wow. That's a new bit of knowledge for me. Thanks! Do you know if the USAF ever had a draft, or was there always a waiting list to join?

elk6x6 @ Mon Apr 11, 2005 11:41 am

I don't know for sure about the USAF, but I have never heard of any draft there.
