I was in the ACF but decided not to join the Army. My brother however joined the Royal Irish Regiment and was sent to Iraq. The Royal Irish had been in Iraq right from the get go.
Meat head out of CFB Gagetown. Appointed the DSO for 403 Sqn after they took my guns away. Seems the provost Marshals office doesn't like it when you have a second job carrying more firepower than MP's.
Drafted into the US Navy 1965-1967 Served aboard an Aircraft Carrier the USS Intrepid in supply. Two tours off the coast of Viet Nam.
My younges son still in the US Army Reserve, served one year term in Iraq in 2003.
My other son was a Captain in the US Army served 2 years in South Korea in 1998 & 1999.
I wasn't aware that you could be drafted into the USN. I had always thought it was a volunteer force.

Yup, I was 18 y/o in Oct. 1965. Drafted into the US Navy. I was the first of three that went in from Montana that day. I was told that I was the first draftee in the Navy since WW2. I served 1 yr, 11 mos. and 18 days on active duty and 4 more years in inactive reserves. Honorable disch.
Wow. That's a new bit of knowledge for me. Thanks! Do you know if the USAF ever had a draft, or was there always a waiting list to join?
I don't know for sure about the USAF, but I have never heard of any draft there.
