Taliban recruiting gone bad???
Tricks Tricks:
we should alienate from Canadians and their minds that we are peacekeepers. Not just in Afghanistan, but everywhere.
That's not really a proper use of the word alienate. Alienate is very close to meaning isolate. Its like a mix of isolate and aggravate....or "estrange"...
So "We should isolate and aggravate and estrange from Canadians and their minds that we are peacekeepers"....doesn't really work....
Not trying to be a dick or anything, just thought you should know.....I know what you meant, more like "split", but you can't really use alienate in that situation.

FFS guy bad foreign policy have consequence! And it is not alway the soldier who pay the price.
well duh, but generally it is. Especially in North america.
$1:
So Motorcycleboy your are ready to die for Afganistan?!? well good for you but if a bomb blow in one major Canadian city it will not be soldier or politician that will get hurt but ordinary citizen! And for what???
An ordinary citizen gets blown up.....kinda like 9/11....kinda like what sparked us to go there. That is part of why were are there Elvis.
$1:
So that big shot in washington can have there pipline pass true Afganistan? Because our government wanted to be friend with our neibor?
And there is the Anti-American Rhetoric. Somehow I doubt afghanistan is about oil, you mix that up with Iraq. Be a friend? Maybe, but more like an ally.
$1:
because the Afgany people really need the protection of the feeble Canadian military?!?
Feeble? Am I the only one that finds that kind of insulting...
$1:
there Afgan for christ sake they know very well how to defend themself! Go ask the Russian.
Clearly they need help considering there country has been in war for so fucking long. We need to stop this war.
$1:
Thats iraq not afghanistan you twit.
$1:
To Be in Afganistan beside American troop is not courageous it is reckless! that the difference. They are dozen of conflic around the world in wich the Canadian could take part and really make a difference.
Reckless? Again insulting much, I am surprised Bart took that. No, they are our ally, we owe it to them to help them. There were Canadians killed on 9/11 as well dip shit.
$1:
And our engagement with the US could very well lead to a bomb in Montreal or Toronto subway.
Jesus you're a dumbass Elvis. God forbid Canada's foreign policy is guided by fear.
Get something through your thick head. The operation in Afghanistan is a just and proper operation. That place used to be a haven for terrorist because of the Taleban, which was a totalitarian regime put in place by Pakistan. We've run the Taleban off, we have terrorists on the run, and we've killed hundreds if not thousands of terrorists who'd like nothing better than to harm us. Afghanistan is a better place because of American, British, and Canadian troops, as well as other Nato troops.
We can't afford to fail in Afghanistan, otherwise we'll be worse off than we were. Hell, Afghanistan is more important than Iraq at this juncture.
NO WESTERN COUNTRY IS SAFE NO MATTER HOW MUCH THEY COOPERATE WITH THE AMERICANS
Elvis would you rather wait for al-qaeda to come for us or have us take the war to them?

No, I find that rather insulting too. Ask any soldiers that have fought either along side or against (in wargames) Canadian soldiers, they will tell you how effective they actually are.
At the moment I do believe a Canadian sniper holds the world record for the longest kill ever made; done in Afghanistan

That is correct.
Elvis is coming across as one of (was it Lenin that coined the term?) the "useful idiots". Short on reasoning, facts, and courage. Long on mindless rhetoric and cowardice. Here's a news flash: Guess what bud, you're still a target and Omar the camel-bomber is still gonna kill your ass if he gets a chance. So now what?
Elvis @ Fri Apr 21, 2006 7:26 am
hamiltonguyo you don't understand bad foreign policy get innocent people hurt! A lot of people in the media and in office will like you to believe that terrorism is a gratious act of violence. It is not, it is the result of bad foreing policy by western government in foreign country.
Right now Afganistan is a gateway to the petrole in the neiboring "Stan" and without that gateway fully open to western power China and Russia is now pumping the oil from those country. In 1991 when negociation for and oil and gas pipeline with the Taliban failed then the US and it's allies had to find a way to get rid of them.
If the western Power in Afganistan where really serious about democracy they would have remove the warlord from power. Don't forget that Afganistan is a narco state run mostly by Warlord and drug baron. And that the "official government" has very litle say on how that country is actually run.
SprCforr we are a target because we stand with a superpower that has and still do comit war crime on a regular basis in the midle east. It's that simple. The Canadian military would be a lot more usefull in a country like Haitï where our military presence would really make a difference and not put the life of ordinary Canadian citizen at risk of a terroriste attack. We have no economical, cultural or political interest in Afganistan. All we are doing there is helping American imperialism in that region and we will be targeted for that reason.

That is astonishingly incorrect and naive. Do yourself a favour, go to the library and crack a book or two open and read it.

Still wrong. The Taliban hadn't crawled out their hole in Pakistan yet. Read up on those negotiations and discover for yourself the alternate routes (and the difficulties that the two prime oil companies had) that were planned if those negotiations failed. See my recommendation above. Expand your research to the origin and beliefs of the Taliban.

How do you know that is not next on the list of tasks to do? Aren't you startting to hear hints of that in the news? The Afgan govt is still trying to establish itself. Removal of that crop removes a source of deperately needed income. That can't be done over night. Do you even have any idea how much the Afgan farmer recieves for a field of opium? Find that out and you'll figure out from there what the leading contender in our plan to combat the problem is. Besides that, it's gonna be tough to move that crop, isn't it?

Hoist this aboard. The attack on 9/11 against the WTC was an act of terrorism. The attack that same day against the Pentagon and the failed attack on the Capitol building or White House is in a different category. Those strikes were designed to decapitate the leadership of a country and to damage their ability to respond. Those attacks, my ill informed chum, are
considered acts of war according to the UN, NATO and every other country that repsects the rule of law. Since the Taliban (the defacto leadership of the majority of Afganistan and supporters of OBL/Al-Quida) aided and abetted the group responsible (and BTW took advantage of those attacks to co-ordinate their own plan to assasinate Masud, their biggest threat) and refused to turn them over, left NATO with no other choice. We are involved because of our belief in common security, commitment to NATO, and above all our respect for the rule of law. Start by reading for yourself Article 5 of the NATO Charter. Where did the attacks take place? Is that geographic area covered in Article 5? Who belongs to NATO? Who heads it and who are the members sitting on the Security Council? Who are involved in operations in Afganistan right now? Who is deploying soon? Guess who they belong to.
So in closing, don't bother to preach to me your uninformed and simplistic swill about the causes. It is plain that YOU don't understand the facts. Pull your head out of your ass, stop believing no-mind prattle and discover this shit for yourself.
It's OK if you're afraid. Take stock of yourself, educate yourself and use that knowledge to conquer your fear.
In your words: it's that simple.
Talibans two greatest weapons of mass destruction:
Oh no! They've taken a hostage!
I would love to shred every bit of nonsense that Elvis wrote, but SprCforr has already dispatched him so handily that anything I could add would be redundant.
But I can't resist the temptation to just add this....
