i need to start a poll.

Don't bother. Unless things have changed, the polls don't work; someone will vote 135 times for choice X eventually.

true

Clogeroo for seperatist medal?

I am 110% against, Vive Le Canada!

QBC QBC:
We don't have that history in Canada and it doesn't translate to here in my opinion.

Grant, i was talking about the U.S.

It's illegal to discriminate on country of origin in Canada. If you give Clogeroo one, I want one too.

Since there's a yin and a yang to everything, I vote that you receive the first "Statist Medal".

I should've never made this thread.

Clogeroo @ Fri Mar 23, 2007 4:58 pm

I can believe how anyone can say being part of a democratic society they would be against self-determination? Nowhere even in the constitution of Canada it says people cannot leave. If it did then we might as well call this the Soviet Union of Canada.

Sure I'm for the west creating it's own confederation with still Queen Elizabeth the second as it's head of state. If people want to give me a medal I really don't care but as USCAdad said I think the creation of a Stalinist one is in order for those of you who wish to stand against the rights of men.

I hate having our country, being part of the common wealth.

Against, and I'll take it one further, it's treason and should be treated as such.

It's not "treason." It's not 1862 anymore.

If a viable, identifiable group of people choose to make the democratic decision to opt out of a federation, then they have every right to do so.

We're not going to send in the troops to oppose them, nor should we.

Just to be clear Statist is the belief in a powerful federal government. Stalinist could work too but that's not my label.

Self determination is fine but like ANY fine restraunt.........

PAY YUR TAB BEFORE YA LEAVE

Fair point. Quebec owes a huge proportion on the country's debt. But I'd be magnanimous and say they only need to pay for their share of the population, say, 20-23%.

We in the rest of Canada would still come out ahead because we wouldn't have to keep paying to support them.

I’m against it. I believe in Confederation and the principles that guided it then and preserve it now. My Canada includes Quebec, Manitoba, New Brunswick, etc and I question the motives of shortsighted automatons that clamour for separatism. Separation, in a Canadian context, has nothing to do with self-determination (this has a specific intention and it wasn’t for nation-states like Canada), democracy (how is this democratic? I’d love to hear this one) or rational thought – it’s born out of nationalism (which, at its core, is problematic) and simple naivety.

Canada is a peaceful nation, the prov's and territories should be all united.

For the most part, this is a united nation. In fact, separation movements ebb and flow here and they have since Confederation. That’s why if one truly understands Canada’s history, periodic separation campaigns aren’t that uncommon.

I understand my history. Im just saying.
