Can Canada vote Quebec out of Canada?
*sigh*
I won't enter that debate since it's totally useless.
I will only say: That's why I hate nationalism.
Two things are the root of 95% of the wars: religion and nationalism.
I hate both.
$1:
This is a province on any given day 30%-40% of the people wish to separate.
What about the other seventy or sixty percent? They count for nothing?
Oh come on now I don't hate Quebecers I just hate seperatists. If there are any seperatists here could you tell me why you want to seperate because I have no clue as to why you would want to.
Wow, we got 8 pages out of this??
Schleihauf Schleihauf:

It's only an ideology thing.
"We are different, we are a nation thus we deserve our own country".
Stupid nationalism.
Tman1 Tman1:
Most Quebecers, acknowledge themselves as being Canadian.
Tman1 Tman1:
Unfortunately, for him that is, I see Quebec a part of Canada, he doesn't. Perhaps that is where we will ever differentiate. He keeps saying Quebec culture is superior while claiming he travelled Canada. I say, Quebec culture is part of Canadian culture...
True !
It would be easy for people to generalize when in fact some Quebecers actually are proud of being Canadians such as myself.
Elvis Elvis:
Tman1 what you are refering as Canadian culture is not a nationnal culture but local culture. Everywhere in the world you will find local culture in any town and region. What I was asking is what is Canadian Culture? Is there nothing of significance that bind Canadian together culturaly on a nationnal level? Beside Hockey. For exemple here we had quite a few Popular TV show that everybody watch Like les Bougons, La petite vie, Tout le monde en parle, Ding et dong, Elvis Gratton, Les boys, ..... Wich all had million of viewer.
What is such a big deal about the Quebec culture anyways ? I really do not see it to the point of separation. I live in Qc and truthfully, I could care less about the so called ``Quebec culture``. Also, some of these shows are nothing to brag about.

I don't see the point that Quebec should separate only because it wants to preserve its unique society. That's absurd. Again, it would be best to unify rather than divide. Simple, yes, but to the point.
Also, A Quebec separation would carry an economic impact. A run on the Canadian dollar and an upsurge of interest rates could lead to cutbacks in investment and consumer spending.
Quebec has long benefitted from inflows of money from the Federal government and taxpayers in the rest of Canada. It is not as simple as just saying fiscal imbalance. Its more complex than that.
$1:
Most beneficial is the equalization program, which provides billions of dollars every year so that "provincial governments have sufficient revenues to provide reasonably comparable levels of public services at reasonably comparable levels of taxation."
Also, consider the Quebec debt which stands at approx. $118 billion. It would also have to pay its share of the national debt with Canada.
$1:
As for Quebec, its newly-acquired $136.4-billion share of the national debt would come on top of its existing provincial debt. Quebec is already the fourth highest indebted province (as a percentage of GDP) after Newfoundland, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia. Its credit rating is already lower than that of the federal government and of Ontario, British Columbia and New Brunswick. Taking on this new debt would make the split decidedly more difficult and costly for Quebec.
The Economic Council has estimated that Quebec would see a drop of up to 5% per cent in its GDP.
$1:
Estimating Quebec's net balance out of Confederation--whether it takes out more out of the federal government than it puts in--is a very difficult exercise. It involves complex and sometimes arbitrary assumptions about how you treat the federal deficit and where taxes are actually paid. For example, the deficit is usually treated as a deferred tax and sales taxes like the GST are allocated to the province that consumes the taxed goods rather than the province that produces the goods. Still, there is a consensus among economists that Quebec takes more money out of Confederation than it puts in.
As economic standpoint, it does not benefit Quebec to separate.

Hate to break it to you Elvis, but Tout le monde en parle is a clone of the very popular Tout le monde en parle in France. I would say Les Bougons (which wasn't even funny) is a rip off of Trailer Park Boys. Les Boys should have stopped after the second one. For Ding and Dong, I'll give it to you, they're "original" to Quebec, but then English Canada has their own as well. I don't know what you're trying to pull off here. I have some very Quebec nationalists friends who actually think that Quebec culture is quite "americanized" or "anglicized" if you prefer.
And I take back what I said a while ago - writing is an important part of culture. When a majority of Quebec students can't even pass the damn French writing exam, I'm not sure what's to be proud of. I am quite ashamed at how you guys are massacring the French language. I am extremely proud of my French heritage and that's why I take so much pride in my written French (unlike so many separatists

).

Oh you are hard.
Proculation Proculation:
Oh you are hard.
Is that a good or a bad thing? Not sure why it would be a bad thing
I actually have a lot of tolerance for French Canadians who don't have the best of French. Why? Because they don't try to "prove" that they have a super duper special culture
The fact is that we, Quebeckers, are pissed off to live in the same contry of a bunch of USA's Asses licker from tha far west, and a gang of mafiosoes for
neighbors. Why don't trew the Ontario and the prairies in the south, with somes like them, and live peacely with the cool dudes in the BC, and with the guys from the Atlantic Ocean's province?

Now the doors are open for some educated discourse on the subject. Thanks Bouboumaster
It was a sarcastic response for the guys who have made a such stupide thread
Ahh... I was beginning to wonder.
Bien fait.

I have no problem with quebec wanting to seperate, my only demand is that they do it completely.
No using the Canadian flag, economy or currency. Also quebecers will need to have a vaild passport to travel outside of there country, lol.
I wonder what the GDP of Quebec would be???
I wonder what the major export of the country of Quebec would be??self righteousness???
