Canada's New Governor General
The masta, Don't forget being Anglo Saxon or of British heritage as a stumbling block for being hired. The Liberals hate us, they’ve been busily erasing our tracks for decades now. This GG apointment is just another example of tossing our heritage on the bonfire to promote the cult of multicult. No-one in Quebec gives a fuck about the GG so why appoint a Quebecker/Haitian GG?
The image of "new Canadians" is one of making sure our links to our past are deleted and firmly ignored. Let’s celebrate the culture of those who have come here in the past 30 years instead of our long historical ties with the UK.
That's why United Empire Loyalists and their first settlements are virtually overlooked by Canada. The yanks commemorate Plymouth Rock and all that, what do we do? Fuck all because we don’t want to upset the Quebeckers and the recent arrivals to Canada.
Consequently our version of Anglo culture is rapidly disappearing. The Liberals have succeeded at the ethnic cleansing of our history. Let’s give out a hearty cheer!
Iced Cap, you tried to make out that having “foreign born” GG’s was an old tradition that was being revived by this appointment.
Brits weren’t “foreign” until 1947. Before that all Canadians were British. You know exactly what point you were trying to prove, it was another dig at British Canada.
I'm sure this latest Liberal appointee will have a massive respect for Canada's British heritage. Just like IcedCap does.

The problem here is that Canada has become a minority obsessed country. Look around you, at the way the laws have changed (for better or worse) at the way our government bends over backwards for minorities. Heck, you can't even tell a good joke these days for fear of offending the one-legged, obscure Jewish sect that believes in a pseudo-Christian philosphy of cannibalism. I have had friends try to become police officers only to be told, unofficially of course, that they are "too white" and should pursue a career elsewhere. "Too white"?! wtf? Apparently police forces must maintain a diversity quotient or risk being seen as racist. This is what our society is coming too, despite the overwhelming need for more law enforcement officials (Edmonton Police Service to name one) they cannot hire any more officers because most of the applicants are "too white" and they need more minorities. The tables have turned, if you are a white, straight, Christian male, prepare to be discriminated against because you are not a black/asian, queer-as-folk, Satan-worshipping hermaphrodite.
Lol... "unofficially told"... look at the graduating classes from the police academies if you were right shouldn't they be all minorities?
funny how not discriminating against a group suddenly becomes discriminating in favour of that group, its all in the perception buddy. Truth is WASPs pretty much had their own way in this country for a couple of hundred years, after all that time I'm sure losing the privileges and advantages must be tough to deal with.
No they would not all be minorities. What I am saying is that the police services had filled its quota for caucasian males and was now only looking for applicants who are caucasian females or coloured minorities. Oh, and I'm not a WASP...WFCC would probably be a more descriptive but less catchy acronoym.

There are no quotas its a convenient excuse for people who don't get picked for whatever reason
IcedCap IcedCap:
yeah funny how every minority or woman who gets appointed to a position of power got there just because of their gender or race but all the white males who went before them were picked purely on merit
On what merit exactly was she picked? Her journalism awards?
from
www.canada.com$1:
Martin called Jean an extremely talented woman who will bring a new perspective to the office.
“She is a reflection of that great quality of Canada, a country which focuses on equality of opportunity,” he added.
He praised her as a social commentator and an educator, as well as a journalist. “She reflects what we are and what we want to be.”
Most of the reports mention her journalism, but focus on her struggles as a child in Haiti. While I certainly don't question the seriousness of her struggles, I don't see why that should make her a good candidate for the job. It may give her some perspective on the immigrants in Canada, but I think it was more to do with the message her appointment promotes. While it's an important message, the selection of a Canadian figurehead (or whatever you'd call it) shouldn't be the medium though which it's presented.
I think Marc Garneau would have been a good choice.

So there it is whities. IcedCap and his chums are gonna rule the roost now because WASP’s who built the country (what about the Catholics?) have given the store away to the French and the “new” Canadians.
Nice to see tolerant views in action from IcedCap.
PS I also think Marc would have been a better choice.

*shrugs* You believe what you want to believe, it does in no way change the fact that we are becoming a country driven by minorities. It seems it does not matter what I think because I am a member of the majority and so my views should immediately be discredited. I have come to realize that the new accepted racism and bigotry is toward myself and others who are of european descent. ie. those that built this country.

Sorry EyeBrock but you're talking absolute nonsense... so until 1947 anyone born in the UK should be considered Canadian born???
as I said citizenship is IRRELEVANT born in Canada means being born within the physical borders of this country, now who's twisting the logic.
Oh and since when does not wanting to revert to the 1930s equate to having a lack of respect for Canada's British heritage? face it EB this country's evolving the majority of whites let alone minorities don't feel any great attachment to Britain anymore it's to be expected in nations like Canada, Australia, New Zealand etc in fact we're some way behind Australia in that respect. Now either you can be a King Canute and make a big deal of every tiny issue or you can fight to keep those IMPORTANT elements of British heritage that really are significant.

I think WASP was a bad and pejorative choice on my part, maybe British would've been better.
I don't want to rule the roost, far from it I just want to live in a country where people can get appointed to positions without certain groups automatically assuming that they only got that position because of the colour of their skin, gender etc

All right, here's your chance. What do you think the new GG did that would make her a prime candidate for the position? Other than as a token minority.

I refer you to my response to hwacker earlier in the thread, I don't think she should've been appointed so I'm not going to defend her.

IcedCap, your logic appears to be a one way process. All Canadians up until 1947 were British citizens. It’s a fact. Don’t go infantile on me with your “…so until 1947 anyone born in the UK should be considered Canadian born???”
I’m talking about Canadians being British citizens not the other way round. Up until 1982 Brits could come here without any barriers, now they make up about half a percent of new immigrants.
We are not wanted.
As for the majority of “whites” not feeling any attachment to their British heritage. It’s a sad comment on multiculturism which has basically replaced the Imperialist links which once were a huge part of Canada’s identity. When the education system fails to teach our kids about their heritage for 40 years it has an effect on the perceptions of Canadians. Successive Liberal governments have taken every opportunity to remove “Royal” from any Canadian institution. You are unlikely to see a Union Flag flying anywhere these days, despite the Flag Act specifying three days per year it should be flown.
Australia and New Zealand keep their own version of British culture alive and well. Most Brits even share slang with their antipodean cousins. The Ozzy’s recently voted to keep the Queen as the head of State. Sure there are republican sentiments in both countries but they value their heritage, unlike Canadians.
I’m no Canute, I’ve given up long ago. But I’ll teach my kids about who actually built this nation even if you and your chums don’t want to acknowledge our heritage. This is a great country and it’s my home, but it saddens me that the pioneers who built it are disregarded by the likes of IcedCap.

I'm just sick of the knee-jerk response from hwacker and his ilk, I'm sure he said the same thing about Clarkson and would've said the same thing had any other visible minority or female been appointed.
I don't think she should've been appointed because there's been a disproportionate number of French speaking GGs since the 50s and we would do more for national unity by acknowledging the western provinces contribution to the country and appointing a British Columbian or failing that an Albertan.
But hey just think if you could actually vote for your GG we wouldn't have these arguments would we

If we voted for them we would be having even more heated debates. Can you say "western alienation"? I suppose at the very least the candidate would be there on merit and not because they can be held up as a trophy of liberal mulitculturalism.

for the hundreth time citizenship is IRRELEVANT I said Massey was the first Canadian born GG please disprove that.
We're not a colony anymore why should British immigrants get special treatment? see that's exactly the example of loss of privilege I was talking about now its an even playing field you're complaining.
Come on EyeBrock the Australians voted 54.87% to 45.13% in favour of remaining a monarchy, that's a pretty significant Republican sentiment.
You really have no idea of what I stand for at all again just because I don't want to go back to the 1930s doesn't mean I don't respect Canada's British heritage or happily acknowledge Britain as the founding nation.
