Thanks to the folks who appreciate America's desire to get a grasp of who's entering our country.

Likewise, should Canada impose the same rules (IMHO Canada should) then we'll happily abide by them.

blockades.......what the hell would happen if asians, africans, or europeans pulled that shit?

In BC they'd eventually get arrested. The crown arrested two women for the Eagle Bluff highway project protest. The funny thing is one is a native Harriet Nahanee and the other a white Betty Krawczyk. So race isn't a factor in the courts decision here. Although I don't think they were arrested for protesting, they were actually arrested for defying a court order. Harriet Nahanee got extensive community service for her sentence while. Betty Krawczyk got 10 months in the slammer.

Now just think about it for a second. For the non violent act of defying a court order Betty Krawczyk got 1 month in jail less than a non white gentleman who was involved in a hit and run that caused a death, while her native accomplice got community service. So the whole thesis about white people being given preferential treatment doesn't stand up to well to close scrutiny.

There has to be a reason for the blockades being allowed to stand, with no interference from the Government or the law, so maybe dangermouse could tell us what is so sancrosant about the natives, especially in Ont and Que, that allows them to defy court orders and blockade at will, with zero ramifications?

[font=Comic Sans MS]Well the best way I can describe it as follows: The Royal Proclamation of 1763. stated treaties must be signed was here well before the provinces had jurisdiction. In fact, over 100 years before Canada was a country and the provinces existed. We are a commonwealth nation and our laws date back to the Magna Carta (1200) and Royal Proclamation of 1763. The governments forced aboriginal people onto reserves without treaties and therefore are in essence breaking their own laws. In a purely legal sense the provinces are in the wrong. Bringing it to court is a waste of time and money because the proclamation is a legal precedence. The only way is to negotiate and when that is refused that's when the blockades come up. I don't believe in blockades because it makes the natives look bad although they have a legitimate cause and the media makes them look bad and creates negativity as seen by some of the comments on here and other places. It's not about race but who can afford a good lawyer, if you have the cash to pay for one you will walk it you don't you will end up with a Crown Attorney who is green and over worked and under paid. So no it's not a race issue but a class issue. I'd hate to be poor and charged with a inditable offense.

You got it Pontiac R=UP Folks down here still believe there is a bias against black folks in Southern court systems, and that is still there, but to a much lesser degree than it was. And that is how it's reported to me by older black law enforcement and court workers I work with, some of whom were Vietnam vets and / or peace activists. However... the trend nowadays is going to those that have money to buy better lawyers. Those folks, regardless of race or gender will get a fairer shake down here.

You're more apt to get rail-roaded in a southern court (especially a Jury court) should you be homosexual or athiest than black or latino.

And don't get me started on court judgements against white folks. Just recently Harris County, the county that Houston is in was declared to be a county where the majority of folks were Hispanic, so should a young latino or latina get shot by the cops, watch out! 8O The judges and politicians will surely remember that white's are the minority down here and make sure the cop gets a harsh trial. Not saying it's a bad or a good thing. But the days of minorities having major issues with white man are coming to an end in some counties, states and cities. You're more likely to run into issues of Church vs. State or sexual orientation as being the biggies nowadays here in Harris County.

alright, who keeps screwing with my posts? I wrote a whole lot more than that. Also, my posts are completely out of order. I remember responding immediately after a comment, and I even see the 2 comments together............then 20 minutes later, there's 3 comments in between.

is it something that I said?
