Explaining my "Anti-Canadianism"
Yeah. Because if you firmly talk to them, they won't be assholes anymore.

Pat said "Diversity is the Canadian identity."
Oh give me a break! Being diverse is our identity?
Webster’s says……
Diverse
"Composed of distinct or unlike elements or qualities."
How can that be an identity? That could be anybody in any country. Do you think Canada is the only country with immigrants?
Sad indeed.
If that's the view of our national identity then it needs to be revamped. Look no further than the Ozzies. They know who they are.
They have a strong culture that takes in other cultures and adopts them as their own.
Where the hell is our Canadian identity and distinct culture? We’ve been here for 400 years. We have our own culture and it isn’t “diversity”. And all new Canadians are invited to learn our culture and history.
Here endeth the rant.

I agree. We shouldn't be looking to diversity as a means as an identity, thats just pathetic and confusing. Canadians like to say diversity is what makes us Canadians but its not, like EyeBrock said, we were here 400 years before and I think that makes up an identity in that span of time. People are just too lazy or stupid to learn about the History of Canada and say its boring, YES ITS BORING, but it also has things in it that make up our identity, not diversity. Multi-culturalism is a freedom, not an identity. I don't agree with some of EyeBrocks specifics on WHAT makes up our identity but to this point is in correlation.

I found your customs weird though - every province and territory has slightly different regulations from the next one. You have no idea how much power your provinces and territories have compared to the states, territories or provinces of NZ and Australia. Ours don't control customs AT ALL, income tax AT ALL, federal infrastructure AT ALL, international relations AT ALL, refugee and permanent resident seekers AT ALL, we have absolutely NO SAY in where territorial and international borders are laid (the Feds could change it tomorrow and we'd all have to shut up and cry because we couldn't do a damn thing about it), and we can't suceed from the Commonwealth AT ALL, and we can't control legal ages and tobacco and alcohol limits AT ALL. (I wrote in another post how hard it is for a state or territory of Australia and I think indeed NZ to do so).
I agree and most people i know in BC dont think or care much about Provincial Politics. It would be nice if there was a channel like Cpac that covered Provincial politics 24 hours and you got to know MLA's better. Its funny alot of people think Provinces need more powers. I dont till you can get more info on Parties and members, and some reform and regulations

Canadian history is far from boring. Speaking as one with an interest in military history, Canada has a rich history to draw on it that regard, as well as in social movements.

I did not say it was boring but many people generalize it as such and yes Canada DOES have a rich history in terms of military and social movements, Riel, Upper and Lower Canadian rebellions that helped shaped this country and Im pretty sure you can shape an identity out of that.

At the rate we are taking in immigrants (and will have to in order to keep our economy viable), diversity will not only be the Canadian identity (like it or not), but it will also be a necessity.
And if you don't believe that, then I ask you this: where is the dominant culture to which you would connect Canada's identity? The answer is actually pretty simple: it doesn't exist.

No, it doesn't have to be a necessity. These immigrants, if government programs were implemented, could and would have to conform to Canadian standards to a point in which they
will have to melt within the pot. Where is the dominant culture of Canada? Jeez, and we just spent the last two posts talking about the History of Canada. Sure our culture is similar to the U.S and as well as the British, its a mix between the two. Cant get any simplar than that. Every nation has its own history, Brits do, French do, Germans, etc which help create
their identity. To say it doesn't exist is to say Canada doesn't exist.

I absolutely agree – those that find Canadian history boring, don’t know Canadian history. Besides, who needs some simpleton’s validation for our rich, interesting, tragic, heroic past to be deemed “entertaining”? Not me.

Well said.
Just because Canada continues to welcome immigrants does not override or in any way invalidate the history of Canada. Our country was founded by European settlers, and nothing new immigrants say or do will ever change that. The standard of living we enjoy is a product of our history, and I find defining "diversity" as the Canadian identity
very insulting to the hard work and sacrifices by Canadians of previous generations.
What's the matter, are you scared of the "filthy, dark-skinned immigrants?"
And go figure. In a day and age when everyone else is striving for individuality, there are still people screaming "conform, conform, conform".
When the majority of the population of Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver are first, second and third-generation immigrants (very soon), I wonder who will need to conform to whom?

I wonder if maybe you're forgetting about a little place called... Quebec?

Did I forget about Quebec? Sorry. Including Quebec, which has no influence outside of its borders.
As for your previous post, immigrants who move here
will conform to Canadian standards or they can fly the next plane out. First, Second, Third generation immigrants have all conformed, what is your point?
