Maybe because he knows that Kyoto is crap, and that it will undercut the Canadian economy.
He "knows", does he? Better than his own department?
If he's willing to keep them on board (and apparently pay them the majority of the $375 million he left for these programs), then why doesn't he listen to what they're telling him?

This thread does not have to do with Kyoto or global warming, cooling or anything else about weather. Not even if it will rain tomorrow. It has to do with a paranoia that is developing. Even a work if fiction is now becoming a fear to some people. What's next Orwellian "thought police"?
Ah, but you hit the nail on the head,
paranoia;--an unreasonable fear.
This story about 'suppression' is nothing but paranoia, an unreasonable fear.
The Leftists here regularly say the United States is now hopelessly in the grip of Bush because the Conservatives engage in fearmongering.
But what is this but the same thing from the other side?
Fearmongering by the Left.
HELP! HELP!! IT'S A POLICE STATE!! IT'S AN ORWELLIAN NIGHTMARE!! THE FACIST, BLOOD-SUCKING, HATE-FILLED, FEARMONGERING CONSERVATIVES ARE ON THE ATTACK!! HURRY, OR THEY'LL EAT YOUR BABIES!!!
Please. If you can't be rational, try to fake it.

It has the appearance of compromise.
And it's always politic to leave opponents holding their jobs. Better than having them on the streets, and it even encourages them to not fight the government.
that is complete hooey, j'aime!
in the US it's fearmongering because it is lies and government propaganda spilling from pro bush media companies.
this article is fact, that a government minister is trying to silence someone who wants to speak about a novel he wrote.

The PM always has the prerogative of keeping the government consistent in terms of policy....why would this be different?
And don't say because it's fictionalized.
That's bs.
"we, the conservative government, reserve the right to refuse anyone to speak freely."
THAT, my friend, is BS

because... it has nothing to do with his job. It is a book he wrote on his own time. NOT A LEGAL PART OF HIS WORK
took my next post from me there, bud

Fox isn't pro-bush, it's populist. I'd explain the difference to you, but I don't think you'd get it.
The three American major networks currently have from 12 to 18 million viewers on a typical evening. Fox news gets about 1.6.
Hardly apples and apples.

You are right the pmo has the right to keep is political caucus in line but public servant are not part of the government they are citizen who appen to work for the government. And they are free to speek there mind without fearing conscequence for there jobs (within normal contractual obligation of course). do you understand the difference?
