Sure don't!!!

Any LPoC hack that calls out Harpo as an embarasment, really should scoop the shyte in their own backyards first.

I strongly object to the title of this thread.

Labelling Harper as a Nationional embarrasment really takes away from all of the international embarrassment he has brought our country on the world stage. Although he quite clearly fits the bill, I believe it is important to recognize his global image as well.

News Flash...

Most of us voted for him 8O

Delwin @ Thu Jun 07, 2007 10:32 am

36% of the popular vote does not constitute "most". I think that the majority of voters (64%) probably feel the way that I do. Although, that number is actually much higher now that Harper has royally screwed over N.S. and NFLD

Most means, greater in number. In Canada, the one with Most votes... WINS. NON????

Non. At least, not necessarily. Look at the results of the 1979 election. More people voted Liberal than PC, but Clark won.

And it's all a matter of how you define your groups. A greater number of people voted for other parties than the Conservatives than voted for the Conservatives. Therefore, most people did not vote Conservative.

1979.... I though that Clark was put in power because the PM stepped down. And he lost his elections, thus the numbers you posted.

Delwin @ Thu Jun 07, 2007 10:46 am

I believe it is the Cons that are in denial. Harper just can't seem to wrap his head arount the fact that not only did the MAJORITY of Canadians not vote for him.In fact, there are almost twice as many people who voted against him than have voted for him . That's most.

Nope. Truedeau led the Liberals into the election as PM, and Clark led the PCs. The Liberals got 40.11% of the vote to the PC's 35.89%, but only 114 seats to 136. Trudeau resigned, Clark was defeated in a noncofidence vote, Trudeau came back, and in 1980 the Liberals won.

8O Joe who?

Clogeroo @ Thu Jun 07, 2007 11:05 am

The last party to gain at least 50% of the popular vote was Mulroney in 1988. So-called Trudeau mania never even cracked 50% of the popular vote. The liberals have not gotten 50% of the popular vote since 1940 when they got 51%. Dief got it even in 1958 with 53%. Also in 1926 the liberals only had 42% of the popular vote and won 116 seats compared to the Conservative's 45% support and only got 91 seats.
