Harper is national embarassment
Even Conservatives would have to agree that he's a flip flopping bozo. and has as much charisma as a piece of toast. let's get that election underway so we can erase this clown from our memory!

Hopefully you are not voting for his sideshow Dion?

Yawn, another Lib that hasnt got over the last election yet.
Wullu @ Wed Jun 06, 2007 11:51 am
Flip flop? Example?
Charisma? Up to the indivdual voter for how charismatic he is. Besides, only a shallow moron would vote based on charisma.
like how he abandoned much of his platform from the election (green issues etc.) and then jumped back on the bandwagon when the people raised their voices.
charisma? none. sorry but its kind of a big deal in politics. if no one likes you no one votes for you. if morons vote for you you are stephen harper

People must like him then as he's the PM.
Guess by your thinking the majority of Canadians are morons.
You must be Baylee's backup.
yawn, another conservative supporting his robot overlord.
im pretty sure you can't say a majority of canadians voted for harper. otherwise maybe he would have one of the biggest majority governments in candian history which OBVIOUSLY he does

In fairness he has flip flopped on a couple of issues.
1. An election promise was to leave income trusts alone. He changed that last fall.
2. He said he wasn't going to change our copyright laws in February, then abruptly changed his tune last week when the Governator was here.
3. He promised use 3 heavy icebreakers for the Arctic, as well as a deep water port last summer when he was in hiding from the AIDS conference. All indications (from the defence minister, experts, DND, etc) is that we are going to get 6 corvettes with limited ice capability.
He's not as bad as Mr. Dithers was, but in only a year he's already flipped on three issues.
Still, I don't like Dion, so Harper the lesser of three evils right now...bloody politicians, can't trust them!

Kathematics,if you really want to dirt Harper maybe come back when he has 100 plus scandals under his belt like the libs did, then we'll talk.
yeah, thats a great idea. i won't criticize the government until theyve screwed us HUNDREDS of times. anything before that would just be nit picky.

Dont you think the money for icebreakers would be better spent on the people living up there and serving as rangers to protect our soverighnity instead? This would also create some jobs where there muchly needed. That would be a much better presence of our hold on the north then a few icebreakers opening channells for patrols here and there.

Actually, I don't. We've used the Rangers for decades and pretty much everyone thinks they are a joke. It's great that they are zooming around on sleds/skidoos, but they provide little to no presence out on the ice. And even if they do see a ship/sub, what can they do? Fire their Enfield at it? Even on a skidoo, they wouldn't be able to chase anything down.
But an icebreaker (armed or not) with a chopper could control a huge chunk of territory. It could be used in SAR missions if necessary too. With a heavy icebreaker, it would be capable to patrol the archipelago year round. It could support scientific missions, resupply Resolute, whatever. The icebreakers are needed (who runs them is another matter) because even the Coast Guard hasn't built one in decades.
