wow, thats so lacking in insight, I don't know whether I should disagree with you, or disagree with you.

It is a law, the law of large numbers (LLN):

The issue is Qc has developed a culture of entitlement over the decades. It's like the Indians, you give and give so much, now you have created a monster and we will have a hell of a time taking the candy away from the baby now.

Something ironic... if Quebec's economy is weak (and, by extension, the province gets much cash from Ottawa), many/most separatists would argue the economy would go better if Qc was independant. If it eventually strenghtens (and, by extension, the province ends up sending cash back to Ottawa and other provinces), many/most separatists would argue we'd benefit directly from seceding...

It is not all about ''Fiscal Imbalance''

There are several factors to consider if Quebec was to secede. There is no way to measure all the economic factors in advance. Francois Legault can calculate all he wants (as he did a few years ago), still, no one can truly predict.

Marois has already admitted that there would be many years of turbulence. Maybe she didn’t mean to say that out loud. But she did nonetheless.

Undetermined factors such as these:

Currency change. Which currency would Quebec be allowed to use.

The value of the particular dollar.

Big businesses leaving the province.

International investments – As of now, some international investors are already weary about the political aspect in Quebec.

Union leaders would run the province outright.

International recognition.

Seat at the United Nations – Some separatists seem to assume that Quebec would have a seat at the UN. Like Parizeau once said that Quebec would have a voice. Maybe? But do not assume for a minute that it would be allowed to say much of anything before it would be told to sit down and shut it. Not even sure if the UN Quebec delagate would have much to do but twirl his thumbs all day with not much to say or do.

Population – a nation of 30 million compared to a nation of 6 million. Canada, as of now, can have a much more powerful voice throughout the world then Quebec could ever have.

Many Anglophones have already left the province since the PQ regime. A count of about 500,000. Well, if Quebec were to separate, many more will simply leave and at double that rate.

So those are all unforeseen factors. Oh by the way, the PQ will never admit to that. They simply could not admit it since they would lose half their votes. Good thing that they have some control over the media. They could never say it with a straight face, but they are full aware of all of this. :D

It is not a candy, it is a hot potato.

Natural resource revenue is dangerously corrupting; the solution is to redistribute it as widely as possible. Natural resource revenue should be treated as hot potato; the more we have hands to get rid of it, the less it is burning us.

Yes, I can think of 139 billion dollars that could have been widely distributed, but it all went to Quebec.

Redistributing widely natural resource revenue is the only way to get a permanent world peace.

If you really meant that, then you and Quebec would not fight tooth and nail for every dollar you guys made.

We'll take our rightful share of the lumber, mines, and hydro-electric energy now please... ;)

The surplus is corrupting; it can be burned too as a (second-best) solution.

Atlantic Canada would fare the worse as it would now be cut off from the rest of Canada. Our only option would be to find shelter under the wing of the Eagle...

The bald one is almost extinct. No, the St-Lawrence River would have to be international waters.

Just an interesting hypothetical for discussion here:

If the Province of Quebec successfully succeeded from the Canadian confederation (and it is fully possible, there has been 2 referendums, and it could happen again), what would you want your province to do?

-> I would want my province to continue to stay within the Canadian confederation (a confederation without Quebec)

-> I would want my province to succeed and become individually independent.

-> I would want my province to succeed with 1 or more other geographically connected provinces.

-> I would want my province to apply to join the U.S. confederation as a state.

-> I would want my province to apply to join the U.S. confederation as a territory (similar to U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, etc.)

There will be no Quebec without Canada & there will be no Canada without Quebec.
Live long the Canadian federation & death to all the separatists

It's not in the interest of quebecors to secede

Finally, someone that makes some sense. So good post R=UP

Well, at least pretty much everything except the ''death'' to separatist part. Maybe they should get a kick in the rear or something else to kick some sense into them, but not quite kill them. XD

It's unusually funny how some, do not even make an attempt at understanding Quebec before their go on to bash the province. Yes, there are some whiners here that will cry about everything. Those are called ''pur et dur'' separatists. To those who are not quite familiar (Aging Redneck & uwish), they only represent a minority, yet they are the ones that are often heard through the media for some reason. :?

Let me repeat once again, that there is Federalism in Quebec.

Also, for you Albertans, we Quebecers are ready to ship Benoit to Alberta in return for your finest chick. I have not seen any response to this demand. It sounds like a fair trade :D

They won't have to go far, the "Oui" arseholes can move to St. P & M. It's French, in North America, and better yet... its not in Canada. :)

kenmore @ Fri Mar 28, 2008 1:51 pm

I think the actual numbers of true Qui people are a very sparce minority... Quebecers are changing the the important issues are jobs, economy and security... protection of french culture and language is important and it will be secure within Canada...
