$1:
The United States and Canada have the closest binational relationship in the world.

•The U.S. and Canada are the world's largest trading partners.
•For the past 60 years we've been partners in NATO.
•For the past 51 years we've been partners in NORAD.
•And, thanks to the tar sands, Canada is an ally with a growing supply of energy.
In short, we're friends, we're neighbors and we're allies.

Now more than ever America needs a Canadian Prime Minister we can count on. A Canadian Prime Minister who knows us. A Canadian Prime Minister who loves us.

"Now, this is coming from a Canadian who is not even a citizen of your country, but someone who has loved this country."
Michael Ignatieff
(Lecture to the United States Naval Academy. March 2001.)

Michael Ignatieff is the best choice for Canadian Prime Minister.

Although born in Canada, Ignatieff has always been fascinated by America.

•As a young man, he believed in America in a way that Canada never allowed.
“I loved my own country, but I believed in America in a way that Canada never allowed”
Michael Ignatieff
(“What we think of America.” Granta. March 28, 2002)

•While living in the United Kingdom Ignatieff pined for America, saying "Someone like me does not exist in America and that seems to me to be terrible."
"Someone like me does not exist in America and that seems to me to be terrible."
Michael Ignatieff
(The Guardian. February 28, 1991.)

•Once in America, Ignatieff called America his country on national television.
Close

•And when speaking to a U.S. Military Academy Ignatieff said he "loved" America."
"Now, this is coming from a Canadian who is not even a citizen of your country, but someone who has loved this country."
Michael Ignatieff
(Lecture to the United States Naval Academy. March 2001.)

Michael Ignatieff has not only been supportive of America he has also been very supportive of Republican ideas and causes.

•He stood with us on Iraq.
•He defended torture, including coercive interrogation.
To defeat evil, we may have to traffic in evils: indefinite detention of suspects, coercive interrogations, targeted assassinations, even pre-emptive war.
Michael Ignatieff
(New York Times Magazine, May 2004.)

•He didn't lose any sleep when Lebanon was bombed by Israeli forces in 2006.
"Qana was frankly inevitable in a situation in which you have rocket launchers within 100 yards of a civilian population," he told the Star. "This is the nature of the war that's going on... This is the kind of dirty war you're in when you have to do this and I'm not losing sleep about that."
Michael Ignatieff
(The Chronicle-Herald, August 14, 2006)

•He loves the tar sands.
Although the current Canadian Prime Minister is a conservative, he has challenged the United States on the Arctic, he is charting Canada's own course in the Americas, and he has failed to demonstrate a deep emotional connection to America like Michael Ignatieff.

That's why Michael Ignatieff is the best choice for Canadian Prime Minister.

Join Republicans for Ignatieff today and show your support for Michael. He's the right choice for Canada, the right choice for America, the right choice for Republicans.

Well, I'm glad he likes my country, but I wouldn't to see Canada try to turn itself into a version of the US. The Way he feels about the States is the way many of us see Canada.

We have our different systems and we are both richer for it. Sometimes we Americans fumble around and go in the wrong direction, At times people may say we have our heads up and locked. It good to have a friend to when we need to be pointed in the right direction, or get a swift kick in the ass as the case might be.

I read through that, it's fine - not offensive. Michael Ignatieff lived in America for all those years and is now leader of the opposition. It's a strange tale but all you can do is suck it up.

Hmmmmm....how many academics would turn down a faculty appointment at Harvard? Hmmm....and that's a bad thing about him? Hmmmmm And the fact that he's spent 30 years researching at the most highly regarded university on earth makes a bad statement about his abilities? Hmmmmm. If you wanna bash him, bash him for all the legitimate reasons that he isn't the best choice for Prime Minister. The rest is just childish attack ads.

So, I'm guessing you'll be voting for him then?

Not sure what the point of this thread is, especially since anyone can make any Website called practically anything for any reason.

Me? No, I'm already on the record for the Green's next election. Not that I like their platform, but neither Harper nor Iggy are leadership material. I wouldn't trust either with charge of a Secondary School Student Council. So my vote will be a protest one.

No, Riden.

I would consider a vote for Iggy because his positions on many topics are similar to my own... except he's running for the wrong party. So many of the things he said are opposite to the direction of the Liberal party.

I'm not convinced that I would vote for Iggy yet, but I do agree he often makes more sense than "you know who". I'm sure it has a lot to do with his cosmopolitan working life that seems to scare the hell out of poor ole Steve.

And give more funding to the economically/financially retarded Green party?

Well done.

Agreed. How much more un-justified sympathy can the public give Elisibeth May? She's possibly the worst and least deserving of all the candidates.

The funniest thing I ever saw was May criticizing the media for political bias and accusing them some how conspiring against her.

ShepherdsDog @ Tue Jul 07, 2009 8:51 pm

Well, I for one will be voting for Ignatieff. It's time a real liberal ran the Liberal Party and pushed all of the radical Leftards back into the NDP where they belong. He's made his positions crystal clear where he stands on a lot of issues, and this will attract a lot of votes away from the CPC, who are too socially conservative for many fiscal conservatives.

But that's the point. Iggy and Harper are equally undeserving. If my vote will fund any opposition to bipartisanism, I'll be happy with that.

Tom_Swift @ Sun Jul 12, 2009 3:21 pm

Harper is the lesser of evils I will never vote Ignatieff or Liberals unless they get a real Liberal/Libertarian, I'll probably vote independent.
