I simply looked it up to see who was correct. There are about 1 dozen cities in Canada who claim the most per capita including Regina, Saskatoon, Winterpig, Ottawa, Montreal and Vancouver...depending on who you ask.

But as far as my little experiment goes, those were the only four I calculated.

I should have waited for some government agency to commission a study. I'd be rich.

Is there still a cafe in Elfros? That would likely give it the edge...1 restaurant in a town so small you have to walk around it twice to have smoke.

The image of the NDP creating prosperity is misleading; firstly most of Saskatchewan’s growth has been in government employment or burocratic mismanagement. The NDP government has had a faulty argument that market manipulation, and subsidisation will attract business, while this may be partially true, such businesses are often unviable and become a burden on the provincial economy. The oil industry is particularly sceptical of investment in Saskatchewan, preferring to deal with Alberta and the middle east.
The economic downturn of the 1980's was not so much a result of government corruption, but due to the downfall of the grain and cattle industries. While grains failure can be contributed to drought, the fall of cattle was far more prevalent and severe.
In the 1970's Canada's feedlots were booming, feed was becoming valuable, We had a strong packing industry, and cattle was in an upward cycle. During this time the Saskatchewan government and the cattle industry came up with beef stabilization programs to subsidize risk out of the industry. Cattle were purchased for more then was profitable and sold so that even with a government check was break-even, this meant profit could only be made on cow-calf operations and the feedlot industry suffered, packing and slaughtering moved from Manitoba to Washington, and a major source of income was lost.

Care to point out any stats for this or have you just been listening to Brad Wall on CKRM?

Such as?

And how are these businesses any different then the ones that pay their employees next to nothing so their employees have to continue to be a burden on the same economy.

Really? So the millions and millions in gas/oil royalities we are enjoying is because they don't want to do business here. We are the second largest producer of oil in this country.

So what are the prices of grain and cattle today? Is our economy booming because of our wicked cattle marketing...or because our grain prices have gone through the roof? (Note the sarcasam)

If you think the Sask Party could be doing a better job then you should try to come up with some better info...

I've heard Brad Wall say over and over "THE NDP HAS DONE NOTHING...THE NDP HAS DONE NOTHING!!!" In reality it is the Sask Party who has done nothing because they have never been elected!

This just goes to show you the power of propaganda. In the Soviet Union people believed their economy was booming, too.

If, as some say, Saskatchewan's economy is doing so well then why is there still an exodus of young people? My niece just graduated from the U of S as a pharmacist and she quickly got a job in Alberta. There seems to be a tonne of part-time minimum wage jobs here but anybody with a family cannot afford to live on these types of jobs. The government is quick to bail out businesses that are doomed to fail but will not attempt to lure any new investment in this province with any kind of tax incentives. How much did the government invest in these invisible Ethanol plants? How much have they pissed away in countless other failed businesses. Any supporter of the NDP will say everything is rosy until they are affected by plant closures or downsizing. We have to wake up smell the coffee this province is not doing as great as the NDP would try to make us believe.

What a bunch of crap. Our economy is outpacing most in Canada and North America.

Our biggest problem is negative people like you who tell our young people exactly what you just said here...that there is no future.

Wake up, there are lots of jobs for all sorts of people, skilled and unskilled. If you get a degree and can't find a job in this province then you are to dumb to be working here anyway.

I was working for Sask Health and we were always looking for pharmacists in all of our hospitals...it blows my mind that you would not be able to find a job as a pharmacists in this province.

OK, 10 second look for pharmacists in Sask...

Donnie..I noticed you didn't post the wages for those pharmacist positions. I can god damn guarantee you that they are substantially less than Alberta! I also noticed that every one of those jobs is part time and a couple are 15 month term jobs.

She wanted to stay in Saskatchewan but part time jobs do not repay her rather large student loans.

btw..She graduated with highest distinction so I think she is smart enough to work in Saskatchewan perhaps even too damn smart to put up with NDP'er like yourself.

twister @ Thu Jun 09, 2005 9:20 pm

in the 10 years of the NDP here in BC it was all smoke and mirrors.. thier union big brothers got rich and they partied on our tax dollers.. Mike harcourts first words in office"lets Boogie" and that exactly what they did.. The NDP is a great vopice in opposition.. and that is where they should remain.. as a governing party they become way to corrupt. They try to serve the union hand that feeds them and in the process kill small businesses.. the ones that support the economy.
In BC under the NDP they said there was less the 1% welfare fraud "joy
Macphail"... If they did a proper welfare assesment they would find the number well above 20% in BC. They are there for the people.. yes the homeless, heroin addicts, protitutes, people on welfare, single moms and dads. The people who don't have a voice. But they are also the voice for the unions and the big union groupings teachers, government employees and the like. It is only when push comes to shove.. you can't have every social program under the sun if you don't have a vibrant economy. When the stark realization hits them the parlour trick happen out comes the smoke and mirrors.. and away you go on a debt increase that will cripple any province. Yes the NDP should be around but as I stated before only and I repeat only as an opposition party to the party in control. Then and only then will you have effetcive representation.

Have you done a wage/cost of living study?

I "god damn guarentee" you that living in Alberta is more expensive then living in Saskatchewan.

If anyone had wanted her to stay perhaps you could have told her that. It sounds like she didn't even look for a job here, you and everyone else around her had been telling her for 25 years how crappy Saskatchewan was so she left. No wonder, you brainwashed her into leaving.
