"For me, pepper, I put it on my plate."

But yes, perhaps "hate" is too strong.

I would say he hates liberalism.

This is why Harper doesn't talk about being the member of an Evangelical Christian Church, or make speeches with lines like this anymore. Its not that his belief system has radically changed, but he knows politics and that this stuff won't fly east of Manitoba.

Nobody east of Kenora has ever voted for him

Of course they did, in the last 2 elections...because Harper is smart and doesn't put his cards on the table the way he did when he was VP of the NCC. Just give him a majority and watch him go!!!

Fair enough...but then doesnt that mean he hates 3/4s of his countrymens values? You cant deny this is a pretty socially liberal country.

Well...it is right now, but that wasn't always the case. The pendulum is always swinging, and under the right circumstances I'm sure Canadians could be made to view Socialized medicine as neither affordable nor beneficial.

Well yeah of course Canadians are humans, not genetically engineered super liberals. But Im saying as they have been for at least the last 40 yrs. As long as Ive been alive anyway.

GordieCanuk GordieCanuk:
Harper on Canada:

“First, facts about Canada. Canada is a Northern European welfare state in the worst sense of the term, and very proud of it”.

Harper on the unemployed:

"In terms of the unemployed, of which we have over a million-and-a-half, don't feel particularly bad for many of these people. They don't feel bad about it themselves, as long as they're receiving generous social assistance and unemployment insurance".

Harper on the NDP:

"The NDP could be described as basically a party of liberal Democrats, but it's actually worse than that, I have to say. And forgive me jesting again, but the NDP is kind of proof that the Devil lives and interferes in the affairs of men".

On the LPC and their policies:

"It's not what you would call conservative Democrat; I think that's a disappearing kind of breed. But it's certainly moderate Democrat, a type of Clinton-pragmatic Democrat. It's moved in the last few years very much to the right on fiscal and economic concerns, but still believes in government intrusion in the economy where possible, and does, in its majority, believe in fairly liberal social values".

On the old PC Party:

"They were in favour of gay rights officially, officially for abortion on demand. Officially -- what else can I say about them? Officially for the entrenchment of our universal, collectivized, health-care system and multicultural policies in the constitution of the country".

Harper is a full on rightwing neocon ideologue. What else could one expect from his ilk. I really like the comment about the unemployed receiving generous benefits - that's rich ROTFL

GordieCanuk @ Tue Jan 06, 2009 8:56 pm

It certainly would explain his efforts to knee cap...if not utterly destroy the opposition parties. I mean after all...they're evil.

I could tell you many stories about people working half a year and spending the other half on EI. It's a common practice.

It appears that Harper has use for parliament as long as it can be manipulated to serve him. His plan for Canada is a feudal form of government whereby he would be king, all provinces would be separate nation states reporting and of course paying their levy to his highness. Aint progress great.

Yes, that used to happen alot - these days (owing to inflation) ei does not provide enough to feed your cat.

EI premiums are built into an employers costs, and the individual employee pays the rest. Nobody getting EI is rich...some are just happy scraping by.
