Scientists studying ploar ice in Antarctica have demonstrated that the earth has not been this warm as it is today since 140,000 years ago. Was there an industrial revolution on 140,000 years ago that we are unaware of? Were there billions of humans on the planet at that time? Was open-air cooking over campfires the problem? Was hamburger consumption an issue then?
Hmmm, the wool being pulled over my eyes is getting ... itchy. Scratch that thought.
The earth was warmer just
1,000 years ago.
Nope:

Note that the 2004 temperature is almost half a degree higher than the highest estimate of the peak of the MWP.
Note also that this is the chart you said yesterday was a good one for historical temperatures.
Wikipedia? Better source then that please.
Give the Wiki-types a break after all much like the IPCC, they have finally admitted that the MWP did exist.....after denying it's existance totally while they played with their hockey stick until somebody broke it on them........
"Obey! OBEY!"

I just took my boat out of the water..better put it back in

Check and see if the Wiki source is already cited. Most articles have bibliographies now that are quite comprehensive.

Oh and check that thread again, he says it is a discredited theory
Wada Wada:
I'm not just sure how they take their measurements. Is it at all possible that Newfoundland is rising?

Hi Wada
In fact it is possible. I don't have information on Newfoundland but the James Bay Area is rising dramatically because it is still recoiling from the glaciers of 10,000 years ago. I have seen pictures of a beach up there that rises a foot or so every year and as wave action piles up stones on the beach every summer the beach is a series of concentric ridges of stones, like the rings on a tree.
In addition the level of the Great Lakes is down and I read they think partly this is due to the land mass rising a few inches over the last couple of decades.

Victoria and Vancouver both have relative sea level declining due to that BC is still recovering from the last ice age and the land is still rising in the absence of the weight of the ice sheets.
Same deal for all of Nova Scotia as well Bart.
Oh, biopiracy? Canadian Hydrographic Services are the folks that measure tidal variations.

Sorry for the confusion, I've been cross referencing posts a bit. Here's the chronology:
I put forward that chart on a 2000 year scale. Bart claims it's the "Hockey Stick." He's wrong on that as it clearly shows the MWP and little ice age.
A few days later, I challenge him to offer a good hart, and HE OFFERS THE SAME ONE HE DISCREDITED A FEW DAYS BEFORE!
Bart remains silent on his inconsistency.
I use it against him here and you jump on it on the basis that it's from wikipedia. Not because it's flawed, not because it's wrong, but because it's from wikipedia. Weak. Then you go on to sycophanically parrot Bart's incorrect dismissal.
It's a good chart. It simply shows something you don't want to admit is true, that at present, the earth is warmer than it has been in at least 2000 years, and warming up FAST.
