Why? Why can't they clean up their own fucking oil. Why should we travel half way across the world to clean up their mess.

Because Canada is the international humanitarian.
So we should go around the eniter planet and clean up other people's messes when they fuck up?
Nope, let them clean up the mess. Maybe Hezbollah can do something constructive with their time off.

According to mainstream reporting, Hezbollah is leading the way in terms of rebuilding and providing aid to those with homes now destroyed, and in need of food/supplies.
To answer the question... Israel should be sent the bill for this one. They caused it... they should clean it up. After all... it was Hezbollah they were after... not the Lebanese people who will suffer as a result of this.
Environmental problems effect the whole world. If we have the means and technologoy, why not. After all this is our planet, take care of it and clean up the fuck-up of others.....cheers ![Beers [BB]](./images/smilies/beers.gif)

Do you remember the fires of Kuwait?
It was Canadian firefighters that turned a job that could have been months or even years down to a few weeks. We did an impressive job and in the process the world was a better place with the fires under control and not darkening the atmosphere. The Chernobyl reactor melted down in the Ukraine and the government of Canada has committed millions of dollars to secure the reactor.
What exactly is Lebanon supposed to clean up the spill with? Their country is a war zone. They are not going to be able to do the job even if they were not one because they don't have the tools to do it and we do so why shouldn't we do it?

Large disasters is a different matter.

So we are going to send Canadians into a war zone when so many people have protested violently against Canada getting involved?

Why should we be the only country? Why doesn't the oh so wonderful UN do it?

10 000-15 000 tons of oil
IS a large disaster.

We sent the firefighters to Kuwait because we knew it had to be done and we were the ones that could get the job done. This is no different.

The UN can only ask other governments. Who are they going to ask? The governments with the equipment which leads it back to us. In fact they are doing
just that.

Why is it everytime these idiots in that damned wasteland kill each other and destroy their contries we're expected to fix everything. I think we should let them deal with their own problem, fix their own infrastructure, clean thier own oil spills.

Considering the Israeli's bombed the shit out of Lebanon, I would think the Lebanese have more pressing matters.
What's with all the insular sentiment here? If Canda can do the job, why not?
