Some polls showing a majority of Canadians against coalition
DerbyX DerbyX:
That would require them showing character, something they haven't be able to show yet.
I'm pretty sure it's in their charter. "No showing character without prior approval of the party leader and submission of form CPC32 Section 54(c) Para 14..."

Welfare? That was brought in to help eliminate corporate sponsorship of political parties, something you cried about.
If Harper wanted to eliminate it then it gets replaced with the rules it replaced.
It was a partisan move by Harper and one he went running away from once the coalition talks sprung from it.
Its no wonder the knives are starting to come out for Harper. His blunder blew any chance the cons had of governing.
ridenrain ridenrain:
Exactly what laws did he pass? Even the bill to take away you're welfare was going to be open to discussion and vote, as it should in government. They didn't even get to the budget.
Right, because they've been so open to discussion in the past. "Vote for this, or we'll make it a matter of confidence! Do you dare force an election?"
There's only so many times that trick works...

Its like going all in on every hand in poker.
Eventually you get called and usually by somebody with a hand.
This coalition is pocket kings against low level suited cards and the flop came king - suit - offsuit.
The next few weeks will see what the turn and the river brings.

Cry me a river. The Liberals have been in power so long they've tainted the bureaucracy and the senate with their hacks and all of them dug in their heels to stall any bills that this government had to pass.
The Liberals are no longer the natural ruling party and you'd best get used to it.
Face the facts ridenrain.. other than Alberta no-one really wants the torys in power.
hence 2 back to back minoritys. And no-one likes harper because he is an autocrat fool.

Wait, was that supposed to convince me that the Conservatives were open to behaving themselves in a minority position?
Read my sig...
Jabrwock Jabrwock:
Layton wouldn't have gotten the support of the Liberals for this idea had Harper not stuck his finger in their eye the instant the session opened. Are the Conservatives ever going to take some responsibility for this mess? What happened to "we'll consult with the other parties to make Parliament work"?
Conservatives take responsibility? Something about a snowball's chance in hell comes to mind...

canadians are clearly against the coalition and have no confidence in stephane dion at all . one poll i saw today said 60% were uncomfortable with him as PM . he needs to back off and get out of politics . this coalition is a disaster and a horrible idea , maybe the worst one ever in canadian politics .

the conservatives also won the most seats in british columbia , saskatchewan , manitoba , ontario , new brunswick . you can hardly say they only won alberta . the only places where they did bad were newfoundland and parts of quebec .
and dion needs to face the facts that other than his own riding in montreal none of the others want him as PM

The only fact that matters is that more than sixy percent of the population voted for the coalition.
They just didn't know it at the time.

He will be gone in May... and won't be calling any shots anyway.
Can some people not recognize the folly of "The Leader"? You just witnessed one who most of agree was the best leader make a HUGE mistake (and continue to make more) that could cost him and his party everything.
Now we're being offered a whole Team... and many would prefer one Leader!
DerbyX DerbyX:
62% of Canadians voted for a party involved in the coalition.
Democracy in action.
But does that also mean they voted in favour of a coalition? Did all the people who voted for the Liberals assume that their vote was also transferable to the Bloq or that their vote for one party was really a vote for this coalition?
If you guys who are support of this coalition are so confidant in the support you seem to think you have why do you want to wait nearly 3 years before you give Canadians a chance to vote on this?
And don't give me that crap about wanting to save the Canadian people from the expess of an election. Elections have been called for a hell of a lot worse reasons. Look how riled people are about this on both sides, if there ever was a time to have an election it would be now.
