Hmmmm.

To the people on CKA that support the coalition government, what say you if in the end most Canadians are shown to not support the move? Do you think Dion should back off?

I think the coalition is a fabulous idea, but I gotta say if most Canadians dont want it then I think Dion and Co should cool it. I know polls are not exactly hard science but if its obvious like the poll in the linked story then...anyway tell me whats up...

Thats reasonable but it still leaves us with the problem of what next? No way should Harper get out of this with his political head intact and his supporters are all hypocrites for supportin ghim in the wake of a maove so politically stupid it should be in the top 3 of the "don't do this" book on politics.

We need a functioning govt now, not another election 2 months after another month of paying MPs to just sit around.

Where is the great leadership of Harper in all this? Seems to me a leader would be able to extend an olive branch to either the Libs or NDP (he burnt any chance of getting support from the Bloc without being the largest hypocrite of all time) and allow everybody to save face and allow the minority to stand and function with a renewed effort to work togeather.

Jabrwock @ Wed Dec 03, 2008 7:54 am

Yeah it shows more people are against the idea of the coalition than for it, but it also shows that slightly more people are for the coalition than for holding another election...

I'm willing to bet the 24% undecided are wondering "can't they just work things out?"

Actually that showed alot of support for a coalition.

$1:
Opposition coalition: 37 per cent
Holding a federal election: 32 per cent
No sure: 24 per cent
Allowing the opposition to run by accord: 7 per cent

Thats out of the people that 40% of people that want change compared with the 35% who want them to keep governing.

64 % said Dion should go to hell.

62% of Canadians voted for a party involved in the coalition.

Democracy in action.

There's a mature attitude for ya.
Conservative party members like Harper and they choose the leader.
You don't have a say in that.

Voters liked Harper and didn't like Dion.
We had our vote and you might as well accept that.

DerbyX @ Wed Dec 03, 2008 8:19 am

What about the stats showing the 68% of people don't want an election and 52% opposed (compared with 36% for) to prorouging the govt?

Clearly people want their elected officials to put aside this crap and govern like adults but that requires Harper to govern with a minority mandate and actually make an attempt to solicit support from either the NDP or Libs.

He has all but made that impossible.

The opposition decided that was impossible on Oct 15th ask HiJack.

 Voters spoke quite loudly. 62% did not vote for Harper.

Accept those numbers.

Harper had his chance to make things work and blew it. You just expect everybody to simply do whatever Harper wants regardless of the outcome of a democratic election.

Fail.

Yet the needed the Libs. Harper made any possibility of getting support from one of the other parties, the very definition of a minority govt, impossible.

Harper subverted democracy by ignoring the will of the people and put Canada last in his thirst for power grab.

Layton wouldn't have gotten the support of the Liberals for this idea had Harper not stuck his finger in their eye the instant the session opened. Are the Conservatives ever going to take some responsibility for this mess? What happened to "we'll consult with the other parties to make Parliament work"?

That would require them showing character, something they haven't be able to show yet.

Exactly what laws did he pass? Even the bill to take away you're welfare was going to be open to discussion and vote, as it should in government. They didn't even get to the budget.

This deal was cooked up by the socialist and sepratists before the election and all they needed was a patsy like Dion to take the flack. No wonder the seperatists are laughing their asses off at us now.
