The Characterization of Harper
Thanos @ Sat Jun 11, 2011 2:31 pm
In opposing gay marriage they're following the policy of every other government from the past 144 years of Canadian history, so I fail to see how this is seen as any type of reactionary right-wing radicalism. And please name as well which past Canadian government gave a total legal hands-off when it came to drug cultivation/sales/possession.
You guys are really just making things up now in your non-stop attempt to paint Stephen Harper as being outside, and dangerous to, the cultural/political mainstream.

So you're saying the Herpes Government is just 144 years behind the times? I guess that's what they mean by conservatives.

Only if you're willing to admit that Paul Martin's government was ~130 years behind the times.
And the "Herpes Government?" Really? Are you SURE you're not an American?

???
Who was opposed to the decriminalization of homosexuality? It was not The Liberal party, they made it happen.
Mandatory minimum sentencing is the only alternative to a total legal hands-off when it comes to drug cultivation/sales/possession? When asked on several occasions to provide any evidence that it would do anything but harm to society, they refused. There isn't any that they could provide even if they wanted to.
Ok, so admittedly,
Mr. Harper is the cream of the crop or something like that. Better than all his predecessors, they should have a golden statue in his honour for goodness sakes.

Dang, that would be a good idea. Maybe doing what he does best; inspiring his caucus.

Well, 130 years behind the times is still 14 years ahead of the guy who followed him. I wasn't much a fan of Mr Martin but certainly wish now that the grass had been green enough for people...the other side of the fence has been full of Sheezee.

after this budget I just wish he were more conservative.
What would be more conservative?
Perhaps he means fiscally conservative...in which case, that means 'spend less money'.
It applies to his entire time as Prime Minister.
Curtman Curtman:
Like opposing gay marriage, like mandatory minimum sentences for marijuana, like scrapping the gun registry that costs us next to nothing and is useful to police, like what they plan to do to our copyright law.
They all are horrible policy that has nothing to do with fairness.
He has no view on gay marriage, so it's status quo. The Liberals certainly had the majority periods under Chretien, no? If the Liberals were such "tolerant, compassionate" individuals, why wasn't gay marriage legalized then?
And good for scrapping the wasteful, pointless LONG GUN registry, considering there are other gun registration programs that still exist.
With that small list, only gay marriage equals anything relating to "tolerance" and it's no different compared to your favored Liberals...so why are you so fearful?

He doesn't? He used to.

"Regarding sexual orientation or, more accurately, what we are really talking about, sexual behaviour, the argument has been made ... that this is analogous to race and ethnicity.... (For) anyone in the Liberal party to equate the traditional definition of marriage with segregation and apartheid is vile and disgusting."
- Conservative leader Stephen Harper, 2003.
$1:
"The Liberals have allowed a handful of tenured judges to create a situation where churches, synagogues, mosques and temples could be compelled to perform marriages that violate their own moral codes."
$1:
"I think it's a typical hidden agenda of the Liberal party... They had the courts do it for them, they put the judges in they wanted, then they failed to appeal -- failed to fight the case in court... I think the federal government deliberately lost this case in court and got the change to the law done through the back door."
- Stephen Harper, attacking the Liberals on same-sex marriage by claiming a conspiracy, News Hound, September 7th 2003.
$1:
"It will come as no surprise to anybody to know that I support the traditional definition of marriage as a union of one man and one woman to the exclusion of all others, as expressed in our traditional common law."
- Stephen Harper, Hansard, Address in the House of Commons on Bill C-38, February 16, 2005.
Not fearful.. Disgusted.

This about sums it up for me as well.
Harper seems to be ranting about a hidden Liberal agenda. I wonder what the agenda would be? Not that I would necessarily put the Liberals above such a thing but I can't understand what this "agenda" is. The Liberals don't seem to do a lot, but could there be a hidden agenda to firm up Gay rights, education, democracy, etc.
Pretty disgusting if that would be the case. Education for instance; what could be the upside of that? All these educated egg heads running loose....thinking for shit sake!@!!!! Can't have it!
Why would Harper himself bring up the idea of a "hidden" agenda anyway. Does he not have one of his own?
O.K, So....
We got yer NDP there tryn' t' turn us all into commies, right?
Then we got yer Liberals tryn' t' turn us into gay educated commies, right?
Who's gonna turn us t' the Lord then? Sure ain't gonna be educated queer commies, right?

I wonder if his goats and bridge miss him?

The NDP is kind of proof that the Devil lives and interferes in the affairs of men.
Seriously.. You can't make this stuff up. I bow before Steve, the king of trolls.
