sasquatch2 sasquatch2:
Sask 0.041 per 1,000 people

North Dakota: 0.011 per 1,000 people
Montana: 0.019 per 1,000 people

Sorta funny how some stone markers and an imaginary line on the map change things.

Comparing Saskatchewan with it's bordering states North Dakota and Montana.

I recall some review of recent US homocide stats, revealed that overseas military combat deaths were included.....this would indicate the frustration of having to cease quoting old stats.

Comparing murder rates per 1000 is not a really meaningful guage as this ignores societal factors such as Saskatychewan's sizable aboriginal population. In evaluating the effectiveness of such measures such as CC, it is more useful to compare before and after stats to guage any effect.

It's like teaching grade 7 again, I gotta keep repeating myself over and over again. North Dakota and Saskatchewan--well, North Dakota is a very nice place. Why it has far fewer murders then Saskatchewan I don't know and the reason should be investigated. Makes more sense than giving everyone in Saskatchewan a handgun to carry in their britches. The stats for the U.S. I gave you were from 2005 in Shall Carry states. As you can see they are not bunched up at the bottom of the list (by the way, D.C. and Porta Rico were at the top, neither Shall Carry places.) Even if they were all at the bottom of the list, the situation is not that good (except in a states like North Dakota, etc.)I don't know for sure, but I suspect they held near the same place before the Shall Carry laws. If there has been a vast improvement, than Louisana must have been a hellish place before the change in law, it ain't doin so well now with the law!

Yeah I get the impression you are autistic....

I will repeat myself..........
Anti-gun folks are divided into two groups.

Irrational opponents have a visceral aversion to guns. It may, perhaps, be modified by hypnosis or psychotheraphy but not by evidence or argument.
Rational opponents have no phobias as such, but they have a political agenda. They are also unaffected by evidence or argument. In fact they have created an industry of misinformation and promotion of urban myths. They recoil from seeing weapons---symbols of individual sovereignty---in the hands of private citizens. It interferes with their ideal of power that, in their view, ought to belong exclusively to the state. Perhaps such people have a phobia, after all: a phobia of liberty.

Good point and highly accurate. During Mardi Gras, 1976, I saw a guy get shot right off a float in broad daylight. My friend there, a Canadian nurse, that night had a guy come in who had been shot by his girlfriend----12 times---she reloaded. Murder shooting rates are affected by many societal factors---the behaviour in the dome during Katrina, didn't really surprise me much. Much of the problems of New Orleans/Katrina/FEMA was that the city was besides being an engineering disaster was a socio-economic disaster to begin with.

As one fellow commented, the two most corrupt jurisdictions in North America are Quebec and Louisiana. Both have a huge civil bureaucracy. Quebec has 4 time the provincial civil servants as California with the same population.........

New Orleans/Louisiana could be styled the US Waziristan/Beruit.

Before stat: millions of Canadians just like me, own firearms and we don't kill people with them. meanwhile there are gutless low life street punks in Toronto that illegally acquire their handguns and will kill with any weapon that is in their hands, not just handguns.

After stat: millions of Canadians just like me, will not own firearms, and we don't kill people. meanwhile, there are gutless low life street punks in Toronto that illegally acquire their handguns and will kill with any weapon that is in their hands, not just handguns.
I agree with almost all you say here. The process of trying to keep legal firearms in the hands of registered owners was the function of the FAL system and the firearms registery. Possession of an illegal firearm should bring a manditory 5 years in prison. That should include anyone found with an unregistered firearm.

I disagree with almost all that you say here. In fact, your words have damaged and undermined your previous claims to support law abiding canadians, and oppose criminals in the streets of Toronto.

Why? If the law says you need to have an FAC (PAL) to own a firearm and you should register any you own, and you don't, you are breaking the law. Penalties are decided by Parlament and the Courts.

Then you will call on the LIBRANO dominated Senate to pass the current law and order legistlation?

Or are you concerned that will interfere with your hoplophobic agenda to disarm civilians?

Still not such a nice place if you take murder rates into account. That woman who shot the guy 12 times, now she can carry a 17 shot Glock eh, won't have to work so hard for the same effect. Keep it in her purse too.

Your anti-gun arguements haven't evolved. You are right back where you started years ago.

I suppose I don't mind explainig myself over and over again, but not today.

I gave you an either or. You expressed an affirmative---which logically based on your past posts would indicate that you do consider the Senate passing the delayed legistlation would interfere with your hoplophobic agenda to disarm civilians.

Actually squatch, I was referring to an article I read in Natural History Mag about 5 years before Katrina----sorry!

but the problem is that previous gun registry brough in during 90's by liberals is such a mess there is still thousands of unregistered long guns out there, why do you think an amensty was brought in few years ago ?
simply wouldn't make sense to send all those people to jail over a paperwork issue .

I agree with you that there is no point in jailing some Manitoba farmer who just forgot ,but many people have urged others to not register their guns and should be delt with.
