Yea.

For me, I dislike the conservatives. The Liberals are ok, but I didn’t vote for them this time. I instead voted for the green party, it was either going to be them or the NDP.

But, what I really wanted was a communist party. Tommy Douglas who had the idea of free health care and won the Greatest Canadian award started the NDP but back then it was called something else. I forgot exactly what it was called but it was a communist party. Now’ a days things have changed and The NDP is not much like a communist party anymore.

The CCF was never really a communist party, Stellar...that's just something their competitors started. It was based on getting workers, small business people, and farmers a fair deal...very fiscally conservative, but socially progressive.

Tommy Douglas wasn't a communist Stellar, he was a social democrat...there are fundamental differences between social democrats and other socialist political ideologies including communism.

Stellar mentioned the Green Party, which made me think of a friend who told me that the Green Party is actually pretty right-wing. I don't know whether to believe this or not.....can anybody out there confirm or refute my friend's claim? I need a bit of a briefing here...

Rev_Blair @ Tue Dec 21, 2004 6:41 pm

They are pretty right-wing. The present leader of the Greens used be a tory. Their policies have been criticised for leaning too much towards the corporate agenda.

If you are a red tory and worried about the environment, they aren;t a bad place to park yourself though.

Like all political parties, check out their policies. Do some comparison shopping. Find out what fits best.

Streaker @ Tue Dec 21, 2004 7:22 pm

Unfortunately, Rev, I know more than a couple of people who voted Green in the last election assuming that the party was to the left of the NDP. Looks like they were had! My guess is that if more Green voters had done some comparison shopping, as you suggest, the NDP would have ended up with a whole lot more seats in Parliament. At any rate it seems that the Greens have pulled off quite a scam!

Uhh....we've kinda gone off-topic here...

As far as Klein is concerned, my own pet peeve about the guy is how he talks about the "have not" provinces. He made some unbelievably offensive remarks about Nova Scotia not too long ago. To hear the guy you'd think he was talking about some third-world country or something...And did anybody watch his speech at the Conservative leadership convention? What a pompous windbag this guy has become. The sad part is that Klein does a pretty good job of reinforcing the stereotype of Albertans all being a bunch of redneck hicks, which isn't the case.

What a jackass.....

Exactly.

That’s...Pretty much what the core of communist tactics are, Rev.

In many cases Socialist roots are much like communist root.

Fidel Castro ran a revolution, why? To get workers, small business people and farmers a good deal.

You can see the similarities of Communism and Socialism their.

Tommy Douglas ran a Socialist party that is now the NDP but his ideas and were based on a communist root. But I know now that he is not a real communist, Vanni_Ficci pointed out to me.

But Vanni_Fucci proves a good point and their ARE differences, but rev, you must understand what I am trying to say.

What does CCF stand for anyway?

Streaker @ Tue Dec 21, 2004 8:13 pm

Stellar: I think it stands for Cooperative Commonwealth Federation. At least something pretty similar to that.

Stellar @ Wed Dec 22, 2004 12:07 am

Hmmmmm...............

Ok, because I thought it stood for Canadian Cooperative Federation.

Maybe some other members know.

Vanni_Fucci @ Wed Dec 22, 2004 2:21 am

Nope, Stellar, Freaker's bang on the money with that one...

Rev_Blair @ Wed Dec 22, 2004 6:15 am

Cooperative Commonwealth Federation is what it says on Grandma's old paperwork. She was there from the start of the party in the early 1930's and was still manning the phones for the NDP the last election before she died.

Communists and social democrats do have things in common, Stellar. There are also a lot of differences. One of Grandma's sisters was (still is actually) a communist. The differences become very apparent when you get to compare them that closely.

The two big differences are:

1. The existence of small, independent businesses working together cooperatively (socialism) and state-run cooperatives taking over small independent businesses (communism).

2. The adherence to democratic principles by social democrats. Social democrats require things to come from the people, communists act for the people whether the people like it or not.

Rev_Blair @ Wed Dec 22, 2004 6:44 am

Just kind of point this back toward the topic: CCF: The Original Reform Movement

Stellar @ Wed Dec 22, 2004 4:53 pm

ok,
now I see.

Thanks for the facts, I can see the differences.
