a little bit from Motor trend... :D

"While it never got airborne, the tenth-generation Corolla was the only contestant we could dub "the flyer." Zero to 60? This Toy erases that in only 7.8 seconds, nearly two clicks before the Honda and Subaru. Same story for the quarter mile, as it needed just 16.1 at 86.8 mph-similarly, from 0.5 to 1.1 quicker than that of the competition. The Toyota's secret? That would be X-R-S."

....hmmm a Corolla beating a Civic, who would have thought

Hmmm...a little bit more from the online article,

"Still, at the end of the test, the Corolla, despite those few positives, left us lukewarm. Concludes St. Antoine: "My overall impression is 'sloppy.'"

Really? Hmm...same site and let's see about that, shall we?

"4TH PLACE
TOYOTA COROLLA XRS
Solid, quick, and capacious but lacks cohesive feel of others."

The Corolla came in DEAD LAST! I guess it can't beat anyone. Thanks for coming out, Bikey Boy.

still beat that civic off the line :P

Huh? It's "not necessarily true"? - look up the word FIRST next time. You embarrassed yourself again because you can't read. I embarrassed you by smacking your post with its own source.

still beat that civic off the line :P

So? The Corolla XRS beat a Honda Civic EX (again, had you completed ALL the grades in high school, you would have kept reading the ENTIRE site and noted the trim distinction), but a Civic Si does 0-60 in 7.2 seconds, besting the XRS' 7.8(remember the time you claimed that the new Corolla would beat ANY Civic? That was funny). Hey, you're wrong yet again! And the Corolla still finished LAST to that very Civic EX! I noticed you conveniently omitted that rather glaring fact from your pitiful attempt.

Another day, another misstep for Bike Boy.

mtbr @ Sun May 18, 2008 5:13 am

I didn't omit anything my post was about the performance comparison. This thread is about engines.

Do you think price point had something to do with the performance comparison? an SI is not in that price range. :P 27 grand is the starting point for an SI an XRS starts at under 22grand. Comparing different cars again, soon you'll be back to comparing the performance of a Corolla with an Acura ...than a Mercedes and a BMW. :P

Actually, that's a blatant lie. You're guilty of committing an argumentative fallacy.

Dumb. Check your figures, Bikey-Boy, as a Toyota Corolla goes for about $25,000 and a Si is about $27,000! Two thousand difference! And they're both in the same market segment too! At what point do you simply slither away and admit you don't know squat?

Besides, when M/T had segment cars compared head-to-head, the Corolla still LOSES! Anyway you slice it, it's an inferior automobile, with crappy engine options and the market has evidently responded as its sales are off Toyota's projections.

Sorry, your ignorance got busted open again.

mtbr @ Mon May 19, 2008 8:17 am

What are you comparing a loaded XRS to a stripped SI? , whats the matter can't figure out how to work a price configurator?

http://www.toyota.ca/cgi-bin/WebObjects ... 60e%2ehtml
$21,655

http://www.honda.ca/HondaCA2006/BuildYo ... pe&yr=2008

$26,680

lets see you dispute those numbers :D

basic math is a problem isn't it :P

give it up you lost again I think you should hand in your Master Debater medal :D

Well...yahoo listed this... http://www.toyota.ca/cgi-bin/WebObjects ... le=Corolla

Difference: $3,470

AND Toyota and Honda report similar numbers (you put in standard whereas I put Auto)

And it still doesn't matter, my dropout chump, asw they're both in the SAME market segment and all Toyota can do is offer a pedestrian 2.4L 4 that puts out 158 hp where as the Civic's 2L 4! makes 197!! Sorry, same segment (and who cares about the minisucle price difference for superior performance and handling?) and the Corolla's gets its ass handed to it (and when the sedans went up against each other the Corolla finished DEAD LAST!!!) I guess losers back their own kind. Next time, stay in school, shut in.

mtbr @ Mon May 19, 2008 8:53 am

Why would someone compare an automatic XRS to a standard SI? :P

5 grand price difference between a standard XRS and a standard SI....different cars
different segment...

I'll skip the flaming thats more your style.

Not $5,000, Math wiz, same car, same segment. Evidently Automotive magazines agree and your rather useless opinions matter little here. Want to compare figures again, coward?

Why not skip the ignorance, hypocrite, and save me the hassle of correcting your litany of missteps? Turn over a new leaf and get a clue.

Oh...my witless chimp, when you write junk like, "basic math is a problem isn't it " that's called an insult and it's a component of "flaming". So save your dummy-style declarations for someone else and practice what you preach.

$26680 - $21,655 =$ 5025. 8O

$ 26,680 - $23,210 = $3,470. That's what happens when you don't graduate high school. Moron

And that also gets ya' 39 more hp, a better looking car and one that doesn't get its ass handed to it in comparo tests.

Sorry, shut-in, Toyota's Si challenger is fit for those that want appliances not engineered performance compacts. And to think that some idiot claimed that the "new" Corolla would beat any Civic. What a joke.

Shuffle on.

read the words "a" Corolla beat "a" Civic

As tested and written in the article. I would hope a car that costs 5000 more ( the SI which is not even mentioned in the same article) would come with more power under the hood because it sure doesn't give you anything for appearance.

Continue flaming.

The Corolla came in DEAD LAST! I guess it can't beat anyone.

Key words - "DEAD" and "LAST"! That's where the Corolla finished (and to a slower Civic EX - that's not even an Si!!!)

Keep dodging that obvious fact, chicken, but your appliance is made for those that just want transportation.

Wrong! The article found the Corolla to be dead last in a comparo test! And despite the fact that the difference is only $3,470 (for top of the line XRS vs. Si), it's a joke of a car for its performance intentions and as usual, your dipsh*t proclamation that the new Corolla can beat "ANY" Civic is like most thing in your life, wrong.

Continue being a hypocrite and an ignoramus. Don't like getting beat like a rented mule - hit the [ignore] button, suck

I see you're still having trouble with.. 26680 ( 5 speed si) - 21655 (5 speed base model XRS) =5025. no sense continuing beyond that point.

cue more flaming
