working my way to it.
camerontech camerontech:
I have about 35 rocket launchers....just from excess metal.
Im still making my way through research to unlock stuff. I was just wondering how elaborate your defenses are.
Mine aren't anymore - I was destroyed, as I mentioned earlier.
Before that, I had about 200 rocket launchers, 50 light lasers, 20 heavy lasers, 15 ion cannons and gauss cannons, small and large domes... something like that.
I would recommend building only what fleets you intend to use, and rely mostly on defensive structures for defense - I had too many ships lying around, and they were all destroyed. Since there's a 70% chance of your defensive structures being repaired, you won't lose everything due to a surprise attack.
cool. I'll keep building my D. I raid a lot of inactives so my fleets are constantly being used, my fighters don't get to see much action but once in a while they do.

Defense is a mixed bag.
If you never leave your fleet sitting on your planet, and use/ship all your resources then you'll never need defense, because there would be no reason for someone to attack you.
But, a strong defense can help when you can't be on all the time (though you should always Fleetsave with your resources!) or a defense helps when you are saving up resources for bigger buildings/research such as Nanite.
My Defenses:
400 Rocket Launchers
400 Light Lasers
80 Heavy Lasers
20 Gauss Cannon
80 Ion Cannon
5 Plasma Turret
1 Small and 1 Large Dome.
and Fleet:
140 Battleships
44 Cruisers
75-100 Large Cargos
15 Recyclers
Defences?
camerontech camerontech:
just for reference sake.
how much defence do you guys have?
how many ships do you have?
I've never been attacked and I've never attacked someone other than an inactive so I don't know what to expect/
here's my defence
15 heavy lasers
15 ion cannon
2 gauss cannon
1 small shield dome
fleet
22 light fighter
15 heavy fighter
5 cruisers
is this good? should I get more defence? I plan on playing this much less in the next few months so I want to be prepared
My main planet has;
165 RL
165 LL
28HL
25IC
12GC
Small shield dome
Large Shield Dome
24 ABMs
I built the ABMs because if your planet is attacked by interplanetary missiles, any defences destroyed are NOT rebuilt.
My fleet (which took some losses last night in a raid);
8 BB
6 C
20 HF
70 LF
10 LC
20 SC
Your defences are okay for a beginner, but you should invest more in the lighter defences, especially Light Lasers. None of the beginning ships get rapid fire against them, so they have the potential to last longer, and they are only a bit more expensive than Rocket launchers.
For the most part, if you make sure to spend your resources before you go to bed (research, buildings, defences, whatever) and send your fleet out on a raid or to a debris field overnight, you shouldn't get attacked. That's because your defences will make it too costly to attack you. But if you foolishly go to bed sitting on 50K plus of each resource, expect to get hit. I generally have less than 5k of each when I log off for the day...
I usually have not much crystal, but a lot of metal. over 100k usually. deut si always around 15k. I'll spend it all away from now on

You don't have to spend it, you can res save it too. Simply load up your fleet with it before you send them out overnight.
I simply prefer to spend it on buildings and research, because no matter what happens, no one can take that from you. Defences can be destroyed and ships wiped out, but those other two are permanent ways of hoarding your wealth.
load up my fleet before sending them out? wouldn't that defeat my purpose of raiding?
No, but if you have 20K duet, you load up 10k and send it with your fleet (say 4 large Cargos). That means 10% of your capacity is gone, but it removes the temptation for a bully to pick on you. I generally only res save deut (and sometimes crystal if I saving up for a technology). Extra metal is spent on defences...
As long as you're still in n00b protection, you really don't have to res save or fleet save, simply go on overnight raids. This is because only other n00bs can hit you and none of them will have a sensor phalanx (which scans your fleet and tells the enemy exactly where/when it going and returning allowing them to wipe out your fleet).
You still have to make sure your fleet isn't sitting idle above your planets, but you can raid instead of fleet saving. Once you get out of n00b protection, then you need to fleet save, sending your ships to debris fields or sending them out and then recalling them in the morning.
Ok, noob question here... I just started last night, so what should I build first, a research lab (1) or a robotic factory (1)?
Build the research lab and start researching tech. Then build a robotics factory (level 2) and build a shipyard.
I'm not in noob protection. I send out my fleet on raids every night but they come back within a couple hours...any way for me to keep them out there all night?

If you have less than 5000 points, you are in n00b protection. What's your name/ID in Ogame?
You are sending them out at 100% speed. Try using the drop down and setting it to 20-30% and they'll take 6-8 hours to reach their target and 6-8 to get back, meaning they aren't sitting over your planet in the middle of the night.
I have 3.011 points. rank 1.532/2.552
good call on making them go slow, i never thought about that.
so why is it bad to have my fleet sit idle over my planet? is it just cause they can get easily wiped out by a larger attacking fleet?
