A question to all the Techs out there
Gunbunny is having problems with his computer's video.
The computer beeps x amount of times.
A truck with a warning signal beeps once every second.
If the truck backs up for a total of 3 seconds, stops, then backs up again for one more second, what is wrong with Gunbunnies computer?
A - the video card
B - the motherboard
C - the the memory chip
D - He should scrape the ice off his windshield.
acidcomplex acidcomplex:
ok answer me this and ill tell you what it is.
1. How many beeps? ( not an estimate, count them)
2. Take all ram out and fire it up, if it doesnt beep at all your mobo is toast, if the beep amount changes its not your mobo.
3. If you have realeased a static charge too it, and a good one, throw it out. You wil not see any burn marks from static
4. If your monitor actual says no video or no signal then the card is not putting out any signal with only leaves you with the slot or card (mobo rulled out already by change in beeps or not from 2.If you try it in the other pci e and its the same then its the card.
Thank you for your help. When I start it up the beeps are Beep 2 sec pause Beep Beep Beep, 3 sec pause Beep.
When I pulled the ram and started it up it went Beep 1 sec pause Beep Beep 1 sec pause and repeat. So the beeps are changing
The words on the monitor are "NO SIGNAL" and the vid card doesn't work in the other PCI E slot so you have answered my question so thank you.

The funny thing about this is the fact that the blower fan on my Truck has just quit and I need to replace that. So I would have to say D as my truck is getting colder and colder
Would this fit?
Its a bit older, the date on the card is 2001

It probably would but I think that I'm gonna upgrade the video card. My mother board is Crossfire ready, so I think that I'm gonna look at doing that. The other reason is so that I can render my ACAD drawings in 3D a lot better on my 46" Sony. The problem is that it could cost me quite a bit of money. If I can scrounge up the money I'm gonna need to get two Crossfire Video Cards, 2 more GB of RAM and a 550W power supply. I think that will run me some where in the 500-750 dollar range, but I think that I could design and render some really cool stuff on that kind of system.

AMD?
Foxconn board w onboard ATI 3800 crossfire ready. Asus used to be. Just pop in a 2nd 3800 when you're ready.
Pop in an X2 6000+ (or a Phenom for twice the price)
8 GB RAM and a 64 bit OS
You won't be sorry.
But I think you just have a bad RAM chip. Try 1 at a time. Or buy new RAM, you'll use it anyway.

I tryed them one at a time and nothing changed. It has to be the video card. As it is I already ordered up some more RAM anyway
Here's my System
ASUS motherboard A8R32-MVP Delux Crossfire Ready
AMD 64 X2 4400+, 939 pin
2 GB (soon to be 4 GB) DDR 400 RAM
ATi Radeon X1600 Pro (but this is the thing I think cratered)
it is the vid card, if the beeps changed as you say. no doubt
