Okay, granted, some sort of guidelines would have to be in place (can't have circus witch doctors administering treatment, you're right) but I don't think that western medicine should HAVE to be the only acceptable form of treatment. No, First Nations methods wouldn't be my first choice, but - that's my choice. I just don't think this should be such a black and white ruling. There should be some leeway somewhere. All of us should have choices.

You're right as well about chemo being nasty. I've seen it kill some patients and make others wish it had. None of us should be forced to endure that.

Don't get me wrong - I'd hate to see another innocent child taken by this dreadful disease. On the flip side, it breaks my heart to think of another little one suffer for weeks, months or years on end with chemo treatments, only to lose the battle anyway. There's no right or wrong answer. Every case is different, and there is absolutely no way of knowing how they'll come out. It's just disturbing that we're robbed of making choices regarding how to handle it.

   

The only right answer is a proven treatment that results in a fair chance of survival. Not a bunch of dumb fucks who can't support the treatment and the associated side affects. It's tragic that a child needs to go through this but these parents and the associates they've accumulated have sign the child's life away.

   

That's your opinion and that would be your choice. It shouldn't necessarily be imposed on everyone.

   

While I oppose euthanasia I also oppose using the heavy hand of the state to make a child undergo chemotherapy.

Mrs. Bart endured a brutal round of chemo just five years ago and she's still dealing with the side effects of it. She's also made clear she will not submit to chemo or radiation again if she has a recurrence. I can't tell you how hard that is for me to accept yet I have to abide her decision because I know what she experienced.

If this child elects to eat jujubes as a cancer treatment over having some toxic soup pumped into her veins then I think the patient in this case has a choice. It's not like she didn't try the chemo first so I have to concede that this is an informed choice on her part.

Let it go and start planning a lovely memorial for her.

Well, it's a done deal. The natives have said they will prevent the child being seized, with violence if necessary. We know the authorities will back off.

   

I've known a few who have gone through chemo and radiation. They were so sick that they wanted to just give up and die...... for one, it's 15 years later and he's going strong enjoying life with his wife and kids, expecting his first grandchild.

   

I find the ethnicity of the kid and family irrelevant. The leukemia doesn't give a hoot. And I am extremely disappointed in the folks down at New Credit for trying to frame the situation the way they have.

If this kid ends up dead, it will be all on them.

   

This may not be the same issue but if my mom stuck to Westwrn medicence for her MS she would probably wouldn't be alive so more power to this family for seeking different alternatives.

Chemo is so toxic I can understand their reaction, though. The poor little kid.

If "Traditional Medicine" worked, it would be called Medicine. The only chance this child has at life has been taken away. Congrats?

   

Why so much noise? Simple future Darwin Awards nomination. In my city was a priest who had a jaundice and people where kissing cross from his hands, when someone was asking him "are you crazy?", he was answering that God will help him with this disease. Problem was solved with ambulance team from infection hospital and few strong cops.
