The rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Georgetown, Gini Gerbasi, recounted in a Facebook post Monday night the moments that led up to the presidential publicity stunt:
The police in their riot gear were literally walking onto the St. John’s, Lafayette Square patio with these metal shields, pushing people off the patio and driving them back. People were running at us as the police advanced toward us from the other side of the patio. … We were literally DRIVEN OFF of the St. John’s, Lafayette Square patio with tear gas and concussion grenades and police in full riot gear. We were pushed back 20 feet, and then eventually—with SO MANY concussion grenades—back to K street. By the time I got back to my car, around 7, I was getting texts from people saying that Trump was outside of St. John’s, Lafayette Square. I literally COULD NOT believe it. WE WERE DRIVEN OFF OF THE PATIO AT ST. JOHN’S—a place of peace and respite and medical care throughout the day—SO THAT MAN COULD HAVE A PHOTO OPPORTUNITY IN FRONT OF THE CHURCH!!! PEOPLE WERE HURT SO THAT HE COULD POSE IN FRONT OF THE CHURCH WITH A BIBLE! HE WOULD HAVE HAD TO STEP OVER THE MEDICAL SUPPLIES WE LEFT BEHIND BECAUSE WE WERE BEING TEAR GASSED!!!!
I am deeply shaken. I did not see any protestors throw anything until the tear gas and concussion grenades started, and then it was mostly water bottles. I am shaken, not so much by the taste of tear gas and the bit of a cough I still have, but by the fact that that show of force was for a PHOTO OPPORTUNITY. The patio of St. John’s, Lafayette square had been HOLY GROUND today. A place of respite and laughter and water and granola bars and fruit snacks. But that man turned it into a BATTLE GROUND first, and a cheap political stunt second.
Tell me again how this hurricane of pure rage isn't justified.
And Trump isn't a man. He's a soulless bastard.

He is Public Enemy #1. AG Barr is #2

Pat Robertson? PAT ROBERTSON?!?!?!? How much of a line in the sand did Trump fucking obliterate in terms of reprehensible behaviour if he managed to get Pat freaking Robertson pissed off at him?

Wow. I wonder how this might affect his viewers.

I'm sure Robertson is now on MAGA's shit list. Same with George W. Bush after his statement today which came as close to condemning Trump's "leadership" as any former president has yet come. And a group of former GW Bush aides, cabinet members, and advisors also just formed a Republicans For Biden PAC in order to drain off whatever sensible conservative support still remains with Trump. So that piece of shit hasn't just destroyed his own country, the GOP that thought it would float unharmed above all the trauma going on beneath them is going to go down in flames as well.
I don't have much to do with Christianity. I don't think I'm an atheist but the things so-called Christians do too often soured me permanently on ever wanting anything to do with church. That being said, seeing that...thing have his hands on a holy book, on THE holy book, the one that contains The Sermon on the Mount that tells ALL of us how we should behave, makes me want to retch.

Jesus Christ, the only things he even knows about his own military he saw on the teevee.

But three senior Pentagon officials who spoke with The Daily Beast said they viewed the secretary’s comments on the call as a way to publicly show support for the president. They did not expect the department to actually implement a plan that would reflect the president’s rhetoric and force additional troops upon the states. (More than 20,000 national guard troops already have been deployed to assist local law enforcement during protests.)
These Pentagon officials added that it was the White House, not the Defense Department, that was pushing for active military might in the streets. A senior DOD official said it was the White House that requested military helicopters fly low over protesters in D.C. and that it was part of a broader request from the Trump team that the national guard ramp up its presence in the city. The Associated Press was the first to report about the military flyover being connected to a request from President Trump.
Additionally, the president has pressed aides and Pentagon officials for graphic details on the kind of armored vehicles, military units, aircraft, and even “tanks” that they could potentially send to maintain order in U.S. areas rocked by protests and rioting, according to two people familiar with recent discussions.
One of the sources, a senior administration official, insisted that the president wasn’t ordering tanks to roll down the streets, but was inquiring about “the kind of hardware” that could be used in military shows of force, and at one point Trump threw out the word “tanks.”
“I think that is just one of the military words he knows,” this official said.
Well, I guess if him knowing that they're called tanks instead of "whatchamacallit, the big thing with a big gun and tracks" is something, eh. POSPOTUS = IQ 45

only Trump makes Nixon look as harmless as Mr Rogers!

Even Nixon didn't deploy mercenaries. No-badge no-uniform unidentifiable Blackwater "contractors" appearing on the streets of DC?

Creepy Joe....
Wow, just wow.
That was hilarious. Let's handcuff the cops even more, surely that will solve the problem.
The only result will be either:
More perps getting away, because the police can't be bothered to touch them,
or more perps getting shot because the police can't be bothered to touch them.
Well done, Creepy Joe.
