Just so you know, given the supposed "evidence", it appeared that the attack was not premeditated or planned although it was intentional, which is why he was not charged for first degree murder. This has nothing to do with the judges or the crown prosecutors, its the way the criminal code is written.
Also given the fact that the accused could have been apparently suffering from schizophrenia makes him liable to plead not guilty due to mental disorder or automatism...there's a lot of things that still need further investigation on this case.

By the way, this whole case has nothing to do with politics in response to your "liberal judge" comment, this is all just lawyer-legal bullshit that comes with interpreting the law. And there is not such thing as a liberal or conservative judge considering judges are supposed to be impartial and they must limit their discretion to the statutes in the the criminal code.

   

After he serves his (likely short) sentence he should be deported back to China.

For crimes like this I wish that a modicum of sanity reigned and the death penalty was still in effect, but since it isn't we'll just have to live with the fact that, with a couple of pills and a lecture from some bleeding heart loser from the John Birch Society, Mr. Li will be all cured and capable of returning to society as a productive member, like he was before this slight misunderstanding happened. It really does not matter liberal, tory, NDP or Bloc, they are all pretty easy on the criminals.

As I stated before, you only become hard on the criminals after you have been a victim, and maybe some of these judges, politicians, crown prosecutors need to be placed in the victims shoes a time or two to start getting better laws passed.
