They don't like Castro down here ...

   

Eleven million Cubans in Cuba, 1.2 million in the U.S. Those in the U.S. came there because they were opposed to Castro. So if one were to ask them what they thought about Castro, you will get a real clear answer, a really clear, one sided answer. If you ask Cubans in Cuba I suspect one would get a wide range of opinions. I think however, the answer to the question: "do you think Cuban expats should be allowed back to re-take everything that was taken from them by the revolution?" would get an answer just about as unified as the one asking Cuban Americans about Castro. Castro may not have been a democrat but he did improve the situation of the people of his country. The U.N. human development index puts Cuba in the High Human development catagory. Of other carribean islands, only Barbados and Bahamas rank higher. Argue if you will with this list! Other large island in this regions fare much worst. Check the standing of Dominican Republic, Jamica Haiti and some of the other Caribean countries that have had the fine advantage of Uncle Milties free markets, such as Colombia, Nicaragua, Bolivia and Guatamala. Its no wonder many of the poor in South and Central America are interested in trying to follow Castro.

Now I know this thread is about Chavez. I don't know how things will turn out for the people of Venezuela, Bolivia and other countries, but I can see why they would like to give the "Castro Way" a try and reject the concept of MaifestDestiny.
