For five centuries, Venezuela has been run by a minority of very white people, pure-blood descendants of the Spanish conquistadors. To most of the 80 percent of Venezuelans who are brown, Hugo Chavez is their Nelson Mandela, the man who will smash the economic and social apartheid that has kept the dark-skinned millions stacked in cardboard houses in the hills above Caracas while the whites live in high-rise splendor in the city center.

Populist demagogue would be the most accurate term to describe Hugo the doofus.

ManifestDestiny @ Sun Jun 15, 2008 6:11 pm

I have yet to see any of these brown skinned people any better off under Hugo

To be fair, their lives are better off than before. However, it is only sustained on oil. He is hurting long term prospects of the country for short-term political gain.

NO these are all well reasearched and qouted information. This is knowledge. Just cause it debunkes what you believe does not make it non information!

Harry Belafonte also he knows what he is talking about

In the Latin world Hugo Chavez is know as Fidel Castro's wife.

ridenrain @ Mon Jun 16, 2008 6:45 am

Yup. It's a regular socialist paradise, along with Cuba and Zimbabwe.

Donny_Brasco @ Mon Jun 16, 2008 7:02 am

Cuba and Venezuela are nothing like Zimbabwe.

"Chávez campaigned for the Presidency, in 1998, with promises to bring radical change, but, for a time after he won, it was unclear whether he could deliver much more than symbolism and oratory. When he took office, oil was at a mere ten dollars a barrel, and his first government budget was seven billion dollars; last year, as oil approached a hundred dollars a barrel (by last week, it was a hundred and thirty-six dollars), the budget rose to fifty-four billion. The oil money has allowed Chávez to triple spending on social programs. Even though many of these “missions,” as they’re known, have foundered or have proved inadequate, the volume of revenues has meant an improvement in living standards for the country’s poorest citizens, who are, unsurprisingly, Chávez’s strongest supporters. It has also given him the means to buy influence with his neighbors, usually at the expense of the United States." - The New Yorker

Why not try to find some fact or quotes that actually back up what you are saying. That critical Wiki piece says the same thing...people have more jobs and more money even though all the social programs are not working as well as they could be.

The poor who are benifiting are Chavez's best supporters. The elite, the Americans and those with the cash to smear him are his enemies.
If Chavez is Fidel's wife then Harper is Bush's gay partner. Not that there is anything wrong with being gay.

Donny_Brasco ask what you know.
tell what you know about bad president man in Venezuela.

Can you fucking sythesize the views on wikiepedia? Can you present your own views in a way that we can understand?
You made a pretty serious claim so let's see you put it all together for us!
Can you walk the walk or do you just talk the talk.
