Agreed. This will just encourage the separatists instead of appeasing them.

Look for the Quebecers to say, "See? We TOLD you we were a separate nation and these imbeciles even recognized it!"

I figure 2009 will be the latest date for a new referendum on secession.

WHOAAAHAHA ! Damn what is Quebec going to do when cultures within the province "D-E-M-A-N-D" to be recognized as a nation within a province of Canada . This could end up being more trouble for Quebec than they may realize 8O

Ottawa should not support them and they should loose all funding which is not universal to the country .

Making them a nation can easily take away any french speaking rights they may have to/with the rest of Canada .

Maybe they want to take the burden of Bilingualism off of the country and Put their cultural qualms upon themselves ,because I can see Canada supporting universal social programs but not a host variety of social distinctions.

Bilingualism will and should end with Quebec's secession. But you watch, even when they separate the Quebecers will still demand special treatment when they're in Canada.

That's interesting Bart, since I just read an article that says that French and Bilingualism is flourishing across Canada...

canadian1971 @ Tue Nov 28, 2006 1:24 pm

Harper just lost what chance he had at my vote.

Arctic_Menace @ Tue Nov 28, 2006 1:33 pm

Well ya gotta admit, it's better than what the Bloc were planning to do by putting it to Parliament about whether or not the Quebecois form a nation, regardless about if it's a part of Canada or not.

Okay so this does sound really stupid but what does it really mean?? Are they still going to be under the same laws as the rest of us? What about provincial debt? How is it going to really change anything?

I think its all a fantasy that there may be special benefits in it for the nation of Quebec , but to be practical this could be the on-slot of specific funding for all different multicultural groups to spend their transfer payments to provinces as they see fit ...which is really senseless , so inotherwards you are right , it wouldn't change anything unless French speaking Quebec has better ideas about spending Canadian tax payer dollars than Ottawa or want to get rid of the french burden to the rest of Canada .

I think it could be a jealousy game because of how well first nations peoples are funded , and they are seeking and assuming the same hard done by privileges .

My God ! what troubles such a wealthy nation has . So Vast so many resources and only 30 million people, but people cry out like they are in the middle of a desert with no food or water .

Scrappy @ Tue Nov 28, 2006 3:26 pm

Well what little support I had for Harper went out the window, I agree with Bart lets us scrap bilingualism NOW. It was brought into being to appease Quebec, well Quebec is a nation now so they don't have to fear losing their "Special" culture. Think of the millions that could be diverted to something useful like Health Care and Pharmacare Coverage for those battling Cancer. This is but one nail in the coffin for a United Canada bravo Herr Harper for making a decision that could alter the landscape of Canada without asking how Canadians feel. Harper and the Con party have lost any support from those of us who voted Con because we were tired of the Liberals, Harper is a dictator who silences his party members lest they open their mouths and speak the truth. Getting into bed with the Bloc a party who has shown that in a moment of a Canadian crisis it will turn and stab Canada in the back to benifit Quebec, Harper is going to end up with a wopping STD whilst sleeping with the Bloc. I hope it itches like hell.

Newfy @ Tue Nov 28, 2006 3:27 pm

Does this mean we can declare war on them as they are now a "nation"?
