Meh if people are so upset, just put up a 50ft picture of Muhammed across from it.

Best suggestions yet. Freedom works in both directions.

As long as terrorist attacks keep happening, Muslims refuse to assimilate and Muslims continue to try and turn Western Society into an Islamic Society, I think it's safe to say that there is going to be a big ass war that makes WWII look like a game of paintball.
You're right. The 'multicultural-diversity-tolerance' crowd can only carry so much water for their muslim friends. The 3,000 dead on 9/11 were not enough to force the public to take a critical look at the muslims so the eventuality is that we'll see, in our lifetime, a Western city or cities, immolated by nuclear weapons.
And then what? Do we then listen to the bleating noises of the appeasers once again and try to figure out what we did to them that made them so mad at us? Do we kneel and kiss their feet so, maybe, they won't hurt us again?
Hmmm?
In related News, tens of thousands of Japanese descend on Pearl Harbour annually!
I don't care what anybody says, the group planning on building this thing is only looking to stir the pot because, right or wrong, they seek to challenge the notion that there is any connexion between 9/11 and Islam... except there is. There may not be a connexion to the famous 'mainstream' Islam, but there is a connexion nonetheless.
It's like building an abortion clinic next to the Vatican. Totally legal, but unnecessarily provocative (unless provocation is what you're looking for, which in this case, it is).
I cannot stand religion. Seriously, when are people going to get over this religion crap?
Spirituality? Fine. Personal beliefs? OK. Fellowship with like-minded people? I can dig, even if reticently. But this absolutist, dogmatic, near-sighted, bigoted, chauvinistic approach to such endeavours that many currents of Christianity and most currents of Islam in the world today take are devastating to justice and freedom. They are incompatible with liberal democracy.
As if we didn't already have enough problems dealing with our own religious assholes in Christendom, now we have to deal with the ones from Islam.
Forgive my glibness, but I just don't get it.
When are you going to get it... Muslims have an agenda and that is the conversion of the infidels and world dominance. Ever ask yourself why after 9/11 there are thousands of them here? why? and it is the erosion of the assholes in Christendom and the falling away of those assholes that will allow it..

So give me the legal reason why New York could deny the permit?

But first it took this...

...and this...

...and a whole lot of this...

...before the Japanese learned how to visit Hawai'i
peacefully.

I would hope that New Yorkers put a little more faith in their country's motto and just say "who cares?" ![Drink up [B-o]](./images/smilies/drinkup.gif)
