I agree with bluenose, that NS voting against Sunday shopping was in a bid to preserve family life and had little to do with Religion.

When shops are open, retail workers have to work.. which takes them away from their spouses and children, thus reducing the "family time".

As a healthcare industry worker, I have worked many many Sundays and stat holidays, and it impacts my family.

SireJoe @ Sat Oct 07, 2006 11:04 am

It isnt the job of the government to tell you when you can or cannot have a day off. If the business you work at requires you to work weekends, you work weekends, if you do not wish to work those weekends, then go find another job. To say that a government ban on specifically BIG business is preserving family values is beyond ridiculous.

You want to stay home, fine, just don't expect me too. I, like most of us out here in the West, WORK DURING THE WEEK AND MOST TIMES ON SATURDAY TOO UPTO 14 HOURS A DAY. It's not my fault that the state of unemployment welfare on the East Coast allows you people to have all this time during the week to go shopping.

I didn't read your post past this point. You're an idiot. I never once asked you to stay home on Sunday, nor did I say I didn't agree with the decision to remove the ban. I will be happy to be able to go shopping on my days off.

Looking at the threads I've posted in, it seems you've gone on a rampage, taking jabs at me and my region like a child. You're really quite immature when it comes to dealing with other points of view.

No, the fact that you stopped reading at the begining of an argument because you felt personally offended shows your own immaturity. If you had bothered to finish reading the post you would see where my argument about religion is historical fact. As far as my "rampage", it is not directed at you personally. I have allways felt this way, but felt it impolite to go at people, as I have tried to treat others in a manner in which I would like to be treated. But when I look on this site and see some of the anit west, and anti western rants put forth by easterners here it makes my blood boil. The thread about giving Grand Prarie and anti canadian medal because he expresses his veiws an Alberta point of view was the last straw. So get used to my "rampages and jabs" princess because it aint stopping anytime soon.

Blue_Nose @ Sat Oct 07, 2006 12:02 pm

That was an argument? It read like baseless assumptions on my religion and employment.

If I had ever made an "anti-western" rant, you'd have a point. If I hadn't been one of the people who defended grainfedprairieboy (who I'm assuming you ment by "Grand Prarie"), you'd have a point.

Unfortunately for you, I'm not anti-western, and I supported grainfed's receipt of the Uber Canuck medal, so you've got squat against me, and you're still an idiot.

Yes it was grainfed prarie boy, my mistake, I wrote that shortly after rising from bed. That was not a shot at you, that was a shot at all the close minded individuals on this site who immediately call someone anti canadian because he is from the west. I myself while arguing repeatidly for Confederation against Western seperation was called a seperatist because of the Alberta slant in my own arguments.

I never once called you anti-western. Nor have I taken any slags at you personally or your religion in general. (As I assume your a christian.)
I see nothing wrong with Christianity as a device, and if you had bothered to READ instead of skim youd see that. My "rant" about how much I work was based on me, not you.

Heres the deal, I have not once, in all my posts made a personal attack against anyone. I belive that it is my place to argue logically, and fact based. Further to that, any time I have posted a statistic I have put in a link as to where I found the stat in the first place, so that those who do not agree with it can look for themselves and try to argue it's validity or context.

It is generally known that the last bastion of argument is to resort to personal attack, which you have done to me on numerous occasions. It is a sad day for all of us when a person's best argument aginst fact is youre an idiot, or your mom is fat, or youre ugly, or anything along those lines. If you don't have any more logical arguments for me to refute then I suggest you stop posting in this thread. Since it is obvious that you don't like me personally I further suggest that if you are going to continue to make personal attacks against me that you start a new thread to do it in, that is based on that topic. Hell, get Derby_X to help you, I'm sure his brand of extreme leftist politics would have something to say about my right wing comments.

What it comes down to man, is that if you want to have a forum war with me, I'll be more than glad to accomidate you. Just don't expect me to stoop to your level of name calling. I'll let my FACT based arguments speak for themselves.

Blue_Nose @ Sat Oct 07, 2006 12:41 pm

Really, so what fact are you basing your assumption that I'm Christian?

Maybe the fact that I've clearly stated several times in this thread alone that I'm ATHEIST slipped by you.

I'm not looking for a "forum war". I made the statement that I understood the reasoning behind the shopping law, and you ASSUMED that I was religious, ASSUMED that I disagreed with the latest decision to remove the ban, and ASSUMED that I thought you shouldn't shop on Sunday, either.

As for the "personal attacks", you very aggressively attacked me for making a very simple and valid comment. You've been given the respect you deserve in this regard, and the fact that you've used this as an excuse to take jabs at me (remember that tattoo thread?) is all the evidence I need to be comfortable in calling you an idiot.

You're an idiot.

VicVega @ Sat Oct 07, 2006 5:56 pm

Ummm youre the one who said that I was taking jabs at your religion. I therefore assumed that you had one. The fact that youre an atheist didnt escape me at all, it confused me. So how is it that by me saying that it is a semi religious issue, based on the fact that historically ALL sunday laws are a result of mixing church and state, and obviously you thought I was knocking your religion, and by saying I was agianst christian based sunday laws, which I am, is that in any way knocking YOUR religion if you don't have one. Make up your mind about wheather or not you have a religion for me to take jabs at in the first place.

As far as "assumption" about you saying I shouldn't shop on a Sunday, you said that you favoured the government or the community imposing a law that said no more sunday shopping, because you agreed with the idea of sundays off. I didn't make an assumption, you said you agree with Sunday laws, saying that you agree with it if it's community inforced still says you agree with it. I didnt make an assumption.

I'm glad to see that you obviously agree with me on this issue of lifting the sunday shopping ban. I say this because since you had nothing else to say on the subject even after I have challenged you to do so, and instead used your time to call me an idiot. It is obvious that you have some latenet anger issues and I hope you work those out, but it blows my mind that you were put up for a zen medal.

Holy shit your a pretty judgemental guy arent you? Tell ya what, why don't you pull your head out of your ass for five minutes, the fresh air might just do your brain some good.

I am, god forbid, going to make an assumption you were talking about this Bluenose. That was not an attack, that was a response to this, which you posted first:

Blue_Nose Blue_Nose:
Hi, I'm Blue_Nose, one of the most vocal proponents of all things atheist on this website, second only to DerbyX. Get your head out of your ass - I like a day off on Sunday with the rest of my family to relax.

So try another one pal. Where exactly have I made a personal attack against you or anyone?

You assumed I was Christian for no reason. I said "family-oriented" and you read "Christian" and then assumed I was Christian. You may feel that it's a so-called "semi-religious issue", but I made it quite clear that it wasn't for me, and most people. The fact that you're confused is not my problem.

VicVega VicVega:

I did not say I favoured the law, liar - I said I "didn't have a big problem with the law". It's right there in my posts. If you asked which I would favour, I would favour removing the ban, and so I'm glad they did.

VicVega VicVega:
I'm glad to see that you obviously agree with me on this issue of lifting the sunday shopping ban. I say this because since you had nothing else to say on the subject even after I have challenged you to do so, and instead used your time to call me an idiot.
Challenged me to do what, exactly? I said what I had to say - that I didn't have a problem with it in the first place, but I'm glad that I can buy groceries on Sunday now. The part about Nova Scotia's "family-oriented values" was a comment that the Premier made, so it's not mine to defend. So no, I have nothing else to say on the subject - my comments were self evident, and you're the only one having troubles understanding that.

Oh, and you're an idiot.

VicVega VicVega:
It is obvious that you have some latenet anger issues and I hope you work those out, but it blows my mind that you were put up for a zen medal.
I have anger issues? You're the one who flew off the handle when I made a harmless comment like "I had no problem with the law". Then you go and attack my posts in another thread, because apparently this one isn't big enough to prove how much of an asshole you are. You, my friend, are the one with issues.

As for my zen medal, I requested that Canadaka make a seven foot long version out of solid oak with gold leaf lettering. I couldn't really have two of the same medal, so I had the online version taken down. I'll have to remember to post some photos - they really did an excellent job.

2. The last time you bought a major appliance, ie TV Stereo, did you get it from the Future Shop, Soundsaround, Best Buy, etc. or did you go to Stan's TV and appliance and pay 1.3 to 1.5 times the price?
Well for that example, I but my computer shit from a place that has about three stores in the gta and that's it. That's close enough for me to Mom & Pop, and I didn't pay more...sor...

$1:
SHUT THE FUCK UP

$1:
I buy my groceries at the Wallmart and the Safeway. Why's that you ask......BECAUSE IT'S CHAEPER, AND I CAN GET THEM ON A SUNDAY
Well I buy groceries from Loblaws, cause Walmart sucks balls. Quoting Bart...Fuck Walmart.

Maybe you didn't read my post, where I said we held a plebiscite and the majority of Nova Scotians voted against Sunday Shopping. I supported this

So you do think that I souldn't be able to shop on a Sunday because the community and not the business owner says hes going to be closed on a Sunday. If you are going to make an arguement at least keep it consistant.

Blue_Nose Blue_Nose:
it seems you've gone on a rampage, taking jabs at me and my region like a child

but earlier you said

[qoute="Blue_Nose"]Hi, I'm Blue_Nose, one of the most vocal proponents of all things atheist on this website[/quote]

Again be consistant. How can I be taking jabs at your religion if you don't have one.

Blue_Nose Blue_Nose:

Your post in that thread was not a harmless comment, it was a slag at a person who has chosen to go for higher education, but just because he wasnt going to law school, and instead decided to look at how, what could argueably still be called counter culture displays their national pride. I will fully admit I can see how I come across like an asshole, but some of your comments prove youre just as much of an asshole as I am.

But, I do hope you decide to post pictures of the 7 foot Zen Medal, I am allways one who appriceates well done artwork. And if some of the people here can work in Wood like they do in Cyber I am sure that it is quite the sight to behold.

But hey you know what? This has gotten beyond out of hand, and granted Im writing this at the end of a quote fest, so call me an idiot if you will. This is it as far as any more mudslinging or name calling on my end. We obviously don't agree on some issues and thats fine cause thats what this country is built on. But we have gone beyond debate into basically personal attacking. If you have taken some grevious offense to something that I have said, then I am sorry. It was not my intent to personally offend you or your beliefs. While I will continue speak my mind as far as my views on Atlantic Canda, I will endevour to aviod comming across like an "asshole" towards you personally or any member of this website, on a personal level.

I didn't say a thing about you shopping anywhere. I very clearly stated that I didn't have a problem with it, just like I'd say I don't have a problem with country music. That doesn't mean I like country music. Try to keep up.

You chose a good time to duck out of this little shit storm you've conjured.

It's irrelevant, and you're being childish by searching through my posts to find "dirt" on me. I've said worse things to worse people, and I'm not ashamed of those opinions. A Master's thesis on tattoos is a waste of that guy's time.

VicVega VicVega:

Believe me it is... keep an eye on the Photo Gallery in the next few weeks.

That's fine - I'll extend a courtesy to you that you neglected to extend to me and leave this issue in this thread. The only "grevious offense" I've taken is the fact that you figured your misreading my posts and making baseless assumptions was something I'd appreciate.

VicVega VicVega:

You've made it quite apparent that the only thing you know about Atlantic Canada is a few unemployment rates.

VicVega @ Sat Oct 07, 2006 8:00 pm

Fine so I misread something, my appologies.

But I did not search out your posts just to slag you, and dig dirt up on you. If you read the other post I made in that thread I went there because I do have a maple leaf tattoo. While I was there I saw what you had written, and chose that time to respond to a personal attack you made at me in this thread. Youre probably right about saying worse things to people, and I am not asking you to appologize for your comments, but I did not search out your posts. Had I, I probably would have come across something worse to comment on, and made a comment that way instead. Call that badley timed coinsidence.

But hey, look, Im not ducking out of anything I just see this as getting old and pointless in a hurry.

PS I hate country music

Blue_Nose @ Mon Oct 09, 2006 9:46 am

So what's the big deal with this Thanksgiving Holiday crap? I mean, who is the government to say when I can or can't go to Walmart?

Where are all the complaints from you people now? Apparently, once in a while is completely acceptable as long as everyone is okay with it, but if it's on a weekly basis, it's an abuse of personal liberties.

SireJoe @ Mon Oct 09, 2006 10:00 am

....Stores are open here today. And yet again, I do not think the government is FORCING the stores to shut thier doors are they? I would assume that it is a store by store choice. Unless you can prove otherwise, you have no basis for your complaint.
