The only interesting part in this story is
$1:
Sumarasiri, who flies British flags in his front garden, added: "An Asian woman came in here yesterday and I insisted she spoke to me in English.
"She replied she preferred to speak in her mother tongue but I told her Britain was now her motherland and she should speak English."
The arrogance of the immigrant...
This guy is completely right.
Ahhh, that's right, let's deny services to anyone who doesn't speak English...brilliant.
Thank god this moron lives in England and not Canada.
I lived overseas for years and I always tried to use the native language when possible, but sometimes, it's easier to use your own when at the bank, post office, whatever.

If the language of the state is english, then people should be required to conduct business at governmental offices in english.
However, where there are more than 1 official languages, you should be able to conduct government business in anyone of the official languages.
FINALLY!!! Everybody should be doing this. People come here for whatever reasons, mostly job operuntities. By coming here they are required to learn our official languages and use them. Every store and place and building in North America and Europe should do the same. With france doing french instead, germany do german, etc.

And you expect everybody to speak YOUR language? While you chose to be in THEIR country?
The arrogance...

Tell me, regarding the article. What if that dude couldn't speak her mothers language? Because most people cannot. OUR official language is english and that is what should be used when going about your daily buisness.
If they want to talk something else with there friends or relatives or at home. That's there buisness but they are in a ENGLISH speaking country and it's required of them to learn and use english to function in the country.
English is the global language of communication in Canada except Quebec. If everybody diddn't learn english and just kept to there mother's language. How the hell is the country suppose to function and communicate? They wouldn't understand each other except for the selective few that actually know there language.
Are we all suppose to learn like 50 languages just to understand and accomindate immigrants who don't want to speak english in a english country? Fuck no, those immigrants came here and they have to accomidate with Canada and in Canada we speak english and french.

How Ironic that you fight for the right of the immigrant, yet the immigrants agree with this guy, while you don't.
I speak english, and if someone, I don't care who; from where, when, how old, etc. comes up and demands that I help them in their language, be in German, Russian, Punjabi, Mandarin, Spanish, etc. While they have atleast a limited competence in English, I'm going to tell them to fuck off. The official languages here are English and French, and they are the only ones you should have the right to demand, and expect to be able to recieve services with in this country.
This guy is bang on. You aren't. Being served in your native language when somewhere foreign shoudl be considered a privledge, not a right.

I'm just glad an immigrant said it, if it was a native born brit there would've been an uproar.
I agree, Business should be conducted in the language of the country your in.
Visited Italy awhile ago on holiday and guess what, I did my best to speak Italian even though I was just visiting, If I moved to Japan I would learn Japaneese. If I went to India or China would they even look at me if I spoke english and made no attempt to speak their language? No!
Similar to an older story in America:

Arrogant? Hardly...
I never said I expected to speak English, just that sometimes people were willing to be flexible, which this asshole obviously is not.
