Hurley, the principal of the proficiency test is ok, I think.
You take it when you mark yourself as an ESL person.
Courses and classes are in English; you cant hope to absorb the material
if you cannot speak the language properly.
The test is to make sure that you can, and the course can progress
at the normal speed.
It's just that as it's March, and she's 18, this doesn't sound like an assessment for placement or entrance.
dunno, but maybe its getting close to applications for college/university...

No, it's a requirement of the ESL program under No Child Left Behind. Here's a little bit of info, I'm looking for more:

In Ontario (yes I realise this isn't in Ontario) everyone takes a literacy test. It doesn't kill us. She's a whiny little assclown.

Yea, probably. Though I wonder if the school pressured her into checking it - they may recieve additional funding for ESL students (which they may lose if she doesn't take the test).
NCLB is an enormous flustercluck.
