So what makes Atheists worse than JWs? To make that statement someone must have done something to you that went beyond knocking on your door.
Once again you fail to understand or you don't want to. I was refering to some individuals. Maybe you don't understand because you've been here six days.

Got ya, I am sure there is some history between members on this board that I don't know about.
...I think another reason that atheists talk about religion is the growing movement in the US by Evengalical Christians to add creationism into science classes. This on it's own could destory the next generations basic understanding of science and in the long term hinder advancment of us as a society. I am pretty sure that most of this is a counter attack directed more at the Born again/evangelical crowd rather than the average person that quietly goes to church and keeps their religion to themselves.
To be honest, I think this is a bigger issue in the US than it is in Canada.
Well said, and that is exactly my reason for coming out of the atheist closet. I've been an atheist since I was a kid, but it was never a big deal to me. I was willing to keep it to myself and suffer the odd door-knocker. It wasn't until the intelligent design movement decided on its own that my kids should learn creationism in science class instead of how the world works that the gloves came off.
I still don't care if someone believes in a god, and I don't go around jabbing people with my finger--unless they jab me first.
(edit) And you're right about it being a bigger issue in the U.S., but there has been some spillover here, and it's worth keeping an eye on it.
I am much like you, although I would classify myself more agnostic than atheist. I started to get more involved in this sort of debate when non-scientist people started to take bits and pieces of science and curve the idea of the science to fit their world view. Crazy videos of people showing young kids picture of apes and asking them if this is what your grandpa looks like? This sort of indoctrination realy makes me mad. It is pure lies and distortion of the finding of science.
Simplification of science to a distorted view such as this just makes me have to say something.
It is because religion affects everyones life whether they are religious or not. Just look at the fact that unless you are a professing Christian one can not be elected to major office in the United States.
That's why there are Jews and more recently a Muslim in Congress. I believe you need to get your facts from somewhere else, because they're false.

Which I disagree with, and if you pay attention to those stories, they're shut down basically instantly, and America carries on. Most people just state that if it is brought up in class by a student, it doesn't have to be ignored forthright and maybe discussed in class, and I support that view since public schools should be centers of education and not an indoctrination facility.
Anyway, you say atheists are talking about religion, but why aren't you talking about Creationism or Intelligent design, if that's what your fear is about? Why? Because nobody on this site is peddling creationism.

Wow, you have a really sad view on the future then if all of science education relies on one subject.

But who here is discussing Intelligent design/creationism being added in classrooms? Nobody. Who here is posting those types of links? Nobody. So right now, I'm watching attacks on religion for a so called "counter attack" on an issue that's not even discussed. What does this show? That instead of countering anything, atheists are just being reactionary, and are probably scared of myths, and outright lies you have about both the religious, and religion in the United States
Edit. I just wanted to say, these are general statements for a good number of the atheists on this site, and not just you.

Who is that guy? He speaks with some authority to his audience. That is scary stuff.
As the saying goes, he has a right to his own opinions, but not his own facts. He is simply lying through his teeth. It's pure exploitatinon of people who don't know the facts for themselves.
Hey atheists, quit shoving your message down our throats.
Hey Reliougy, stop shoving your message down our throats. How many religious ads has there been in the past? How many people knocking on your door asking if you want to buy a bible. How many people spreading the religious message through TV Ads, in the streets and other public places?
I really like how religious does things 1 million times, than when athiesm does it once they get yelled at for doing something like it.
People are allowed to believe in what they want, when religious people go out and preach there message. Nobody stops them. This is just athiests doing the same thing, so chillax.
The word “probably” makes this an Agnostics ad, not Atheist.
In any case, annoying religious zealot bullshit versus annoying anti-religious zealotbullshit.
Both annoying bullshit.
Actually, it's proper for an atheist to say "probably", because no one, not even an atheist, can prove definitively that there is no god. If god-believers did the same, there might be less friction between the two.
I agree with poquas. Athiests reject theism as an ideological stance. I'd say most people referred to as athiests are probably better described as scientific sceptics or agnostics.most most so-called athiests are actually agnostics. "Atheism" has also come to be used as pejorative term for anyone that has a beef with organized religion.
True Richard Dawkins calls himself an Atheist, but he admits he really is an agnostic. He feels that saying your an agnostic people some times think you are just fence sitting and could go either way.

Check out Then stick around and look at all twenty something youtubes by thunderfoot. It's quite good. He really likes Ken Hovin, the guy you asked about.

Intelligent design/creationism doesn't belong in classrooms because it's not fact. It's just a widely believed theory that many people accept as the trueth which is fine. However if you expect it to be preached in science class you would have to find some scientific backing for it first.
Religion has churches and temples and mosques all over the world in every city, theres not a place where somebody can't access one. In there they teach intelligent design and creationism. Which is where it belongs.
Secondly, are you blind or something? I see the same shit going on from both sides all the time. Mostly religion. All I hear about is people preaching theres being the 'true religion' or that others are not worthy human beings because they believe in this religion or none at all.
Athiests are considered the low of the low by religion people, they hate all other religions but prefer them over all athiests.
This has been going on for a long ass time, now that athiesm has grown a heck of a lot. I believe we are allowed to attack back wouldn't you say? Mostly it's just athiests preaching there is no god, which is what they believe in. No different than religious people preaching there is a god and or there religion.
If you really see that as a 'attack', which I suppose it can be. Than it 100% goes both ways.
"and are probably scared of myths, and outright lies you have about both the religious, and religion in the United States"
Lies we have about religion? What lies? You cannot prove god exists, just like we cannot prove there isn't. However there are alternative theories for the creation of everything that has more sense and backing scientificly.
Religious has ZERO backing in anything it sais, all 100% of it all has to be accepted based on what a really old book sais. If I discovered a old book that said there is a giagantic monster living in the middle of the earth that keep it alive. Theres no way I am just going to believe that, I want it backed by proof first which is generally why people are athiests because religious offers no proof what it sais and has nothing to offer than them telling you what you can or can not do and what is real and what is not real. To hate this, or not to hate that.
Athiesm is not threatening to religion, it's just people simply believing in proof than in words. Both sides have there extremists. Athiesm has it's extremists that want to change the world to athiesm because they believe athiesm is correct. Religion has extremists that want to change the world to there religion because they think they are correct, they got fanatics that blow people up and themselves. They got fanatics that will kill other religious people for believing in the wrong religion.

No. Agnostics believe in the supernatural and life after death, alot of the time even in God. Atheists do not.

We're not saying discussion of religious ideas shouldn't be allowed in schools. There are religion and philosophy classes for that. But religion isn't science, just as it isn't math, or English, or shop.
If you think religious ideas deserve to be discussed in a science class, then you don't really know what science is. Would you support the discussion of math concepts in English class? Should the Toronto Raptors be allowed to play in the NHL simply because they say they're a hockey team? Do scientific theories deserve equal time in the Sunday sermon?
