<i>"The North Koreans are the wild card...."</i> <p>North Korea would have us BELIEVE it's a wild card. Gets it a lot of attention. But what can it do that Al Quaeda cannot? And a missile defense shield won't stop the latter.</p><p>---<br>RickW
Yeah, it was so much better to sell things like fuel and additives and patents and gunpowder and vehicles to the Nazis, like Farish and DuPont...with Harriman and Bush shipping the stuff over there and handling the payments...that worked a LOT better. Thanks you guys. <p>(Selling WMD to Saddam was bright move too.)
And don't forget those brave soldiers that empty their
high-calibre clips into Palestinian children.
Actually jj, <a href='//www.kmf.org/williams/bushbook/bush24.html'>George Herbert Walker Bush showed more grief at the fall of the Berlin Wall</a> than I did - probably because he was now saddled with creating a new Great Phantom Wolf to keep the sheep <em>begging</em> for fleecing...
I certainly do not prefer to be vulnerable to nuclear missiles. But, (1) the system is not going to be an effective defence for many years - they've already worked on it for 20, and are still barely able to hit a missile with a homing beacon fired at their own convenience - and (2), I don't like placing our defense in the hands of a country as historically fickle in its "friendships" and with as great a lust for resources as the US.
JJ:
I'd like to see you move to Fort McMurray and live in a work camp to work in minus 40 degree cold to send money back home to warmer climes, like so many Canadians I know do. That's not wimpy at all.
Furthermore, if Americans had died at the hands of Canadian friendly fire, we'd see a different outcome. Why are so many US soldiers abusing Iraqis? Is it because they are so poor that they join the Army to get free dental? The US army is full of slack-jawed yokels who view Iraqis as "ragheads". They are poor people tricked into fighting a rich man's war.
Canada took the books to its soldiers when they abused Somalis; meanwhile, across the way, American soldiers kept tallies of how many "skinnys" they had taken out. The manifestation of that is Abu Ghraib, Gitmo and the new stories about prisoner abuse.
Canada has a land area far greater than the US, yet with only 10% of the population, so by geography and demography, it's pretty damn hard to even defend the North Pole from the Imperialistic urges of Denmark of all places, let alone commit troops to a war most believe is illegal.
