Wow. They did a hell of a job. Sound and graphics are very well done!

DrCaleb @ Wed Jun 10, 2020 6:07 am

I am enjoying it so far. I loved the installation video, I forgot how good it was.

And gameplay is interesting. I got too used to C&C 3: Tiberium Wars as far as build order, and the crappy AI. Now I have to relearn it, or the AI will murder me!

Scape @ Wed Jun 10, 2020 5:34 pm

Ya, No attack move is annoying but I enjoy it. The thing I forgot and love the most however is the screams. OMG Glorious! Especially with the flame thrower units. Haven't heard screams like that since the close combat series and Dungeon Keeper.

Sweet memories.

Right?! Those were the best part. I don’t know how they got a scream that good in the MIDI era but they are fantastic. Especially when you Ion Cannon a group of rocket soldiers....good times.

But I do miss some of the more modern RTS features but this is listening to the debut album of a band that’s been around a long time. You remember why you liked them so much in the first place.

I love the *Zzzzzzzt* of the Tesla Towers.

What I am not loving, and forgot about, it the crappy 'attack' AI. If you send a group of artillery in to flatten a flame tower, odds are one of them will roll right up to it to attack point blank. :(

It's better to inch up to the tower until the AI sees an enemy and they attack on their own.

DrCaleb @ Fri Jun 19, 2020 11:36 am

So, in 'Skirmish' mode in Red Alert Remastered, there is one map kicking my ass. Not the AI, the map is openly hostile!

"The Hills Have Eyes". There are civilians all over, and they appear to be 'freedom fighters'. They swarm my armour with tesla rifles and flame throwers, and take them all out. Suicide bombers with nukes then wear down my defences, and eventually I lose my refinery and/or assembly yard. After that, it's all downhill.

My next attempt will be to go for the advanced tech, and build Tanyas to see if she can protect me.

I know what you mean. It’s probably due to the passage of time and due to playing newer RTS games, but I don’t remember the AI being so clueless. Someone will be attacking them and they just sit there, inert, until they die. And then there’s movement mechanics...

But I still like it.

Oh! Totally! I still play C&C Generals and Tiberium Wars, Red Alert 3 . . . simply for the game play and voice actors. "Thank you for the Shoes!"

I love having an updated version to play, considering all the hackery may have to go on to get old games to run right. [BB]

xerxes @ Fri Jun 19, 2020 2:26 pm

No kidding. I remember way back when I used to buy PC Gamer magazines on the monthly, one issue came with a disc full of classic games like the original NFS and the first MS Golf and what have you. Some of those games you had to go into DOS to run, even with the latest version of Windows. Back when you could still actually close Windows and go into DOS. Not like today where DOS is just another application run through Windows.
